Geoff Keighley confirmed a few days ago that this week’s episode of Game Trailers TV would be offering a world premiere unveiling of a brand new PS3 exclusive, just six weeks before we expect to see a lot more of said unannounced game at E3. Combining this news with reports of Sony having All-Stars Battle Royale developed as their own first-party version of Nintendo’s Smash Bros. games and with Sony registering the official domain name for the title recently, and it became increasingly clear that it is All-Stars Battle Royale would be revealed this week....

Stardew Valley was made mostly by one dude in his basement. Roots of Pacha is being made by two brothers in San Diego. That’ll make it twice as good, right? It’s a little unfair to simply call Roots of Pacha a Stardew clone. For starters, both Roots of Pacha and Stardew are love letters to Harvest Moon. The only difference is that Roots of Pacha also takes inspiration from the children’s story “The Clan of the Cave Bear,” and it has a slightly more JRPG hairstyle for the main character....

Twitch has officially removed the PogChamp emote from its service after Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez – the face behind the emote – began publishing controversial tweets Wednesday night. “We’ve made the decision to remove the PogChamp emote following statements from the face of the emote encouraging further violence after what took place in the Capitol today,” reads Twitch’s official statement. “We want the sentiment and use of Pog to live on – its meaning is much bigger than the person depicted or image itself – and it has a big place in Twitch culture....

French stock market watchdog fines CEO and four others for insider trading, while Ubisoft appeals decision claiming the accused couldn’t have known its games would be postponed. France’s stock market regulator AMF handed out $1.26 million in fines to five Ubisoft executives Friday, accusing them of insider trading in March 2013. The quintet have been charged with selling off their stock a few weeks before the French publisher announced that the first Watch Dogs and The Crew would come out later than expected....

The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the entertainment industry, leading to delayed production on movies like Matt Reeve’s The Batman and shows like Netflix’s The Witcher. Adding onto the deluge of these delays, Sony Pictures has announced that pre-production on their upcoming Uncharted movie will be halted for six weeks. Filming on Uncharted, which stars Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, was set to begin next month in Berlin according to Variety, but “execs felt it was best for the safety of all involved to delay the shoot indefinitely....

Universal is planning on making another Doom movie since apparently they didn’t learn their lesson the first time around. If you make a game and call it Doom, you can do no wrong. The original ‘90s era games were classics. The 2004 reinvention of the series Doom 3 was another critically acclaimed game, but it seemed to lose something to the original iterations. Bethesda’s crack with the remade Doom in 2016 brought everything full circle, making a game that was true to the arcade shooter-feel of the original while still delivering oodles of creepy demons and zombies....

In January, US game spending increased 42% year-over-year to $4.71 billion, an all-time high, according to the industry tracking NPD Group. Meanwhile, spending on hardware increased 144% year-over-year to $319 million thanks to the launch of next-gen consoles and the growing popularity of the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch, released worldwide on March 3, 2017, was the best-selling console, though the more expensive PS5 netted more revenue. The Switch’s unit sales were the highest since the Wii in 2010, while the PS5’s total revenue was the largest since the Wii in 2009....
