The United Kingdom government is continuing to stay involved with the current console scalping problem. The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy has responded to a recent petition demanding laws to combat scalping. Scalping refers to when individuals purchase available stock for an item and then resell it for a higher price. This problem has led to scalpers making big profits on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console launches....

The US military has had a controversial history with the popular streaming platform Twitch. In July, reporter Jordan Uhl wrote an exposé on the US Army grooming children for recruitment on their Twitch stream, as well as banning anyone who brought up the United States’ history of war crimes. Shortly after Uhl’s report, the House of Representatives’ resident gamer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced a bill that would ban the military from this practice, which failed to garner the votes needed to pass....

The season 4 theme of the Xbox exclusive free-to-play shooter Vigor has been announced. Called Warlords, it includes a new 5v5 game mode and several other new features and items. The Nintendo Switch port is also getting closer to its launch date. Vigor is a third-person, multiplayer, shoot and loot game set in a post-war Norway, where 8-12 players team up as Outlanders in order to survive a harsh and hostile wasteland....

Well over a year before its announced release date of November 2014, Star Citizen, the grand-scale space sim from the mind behind Wing Commander, has almost succeeded in recouping its entire budget via crowd-funding. Earlier this summer, Cloud Imperium Games Corporation was able to proudly announced that Star Citizen had earned the label of becoming the most successful crowd-funded project ever, just weeks later crossing the $14 million mark of an expected $20 million budget....

Originally rearing its ugly head back in August, what some players call the “demon glitch” caused textures in Warzone to go completely haywire. Instead of rendering smooth surfaces, objects turn into spiky balls of constantly shifting polygons....

IGN has released a great looking video showing off a side by side comparison of the original Final Fantasy 7 against the remake, giving eager fans yet another look at what to expect on April 10 when the game formally releases. The video begins by showing the escape of Avalanche following the destruction of the Shinra Mako reactor, with the team discussing the unknown fate of Cloud. As we have come to see in similar teasers and comparisons, the atmosphere is far more somber, and the characters are able to better express themselves through voice acting instead of small snippets of text....

Just after Watch Dogs: Legion finally receives multiplayer support across all platforms, Ubisoft has announced a free trial weekend for the players to demo the game. You’ll be able to play Watch Dogs: Legion solo or online at no cost this weekend, starting on Thursday, March 25. Watch Dogs: Legion multiplayer was originally planned for a December 3, 2020 release date, but it, unfortunately, saw a delay into 2021. With the first Tactical Ops mission finally going live on March 23, the long-awaited online mode fully arrives in the game only five months after its initial launch at the end of October 2020....

It’s rare to see a game franchise become worse and worse as the years go by, but there’s no doubt that The Sims 4 has failed to live up to basic expectations. No surprise, really, given what it needs to live up to: the quirkiness of The Sims, as well as the sheer detail and immersion of The Sims 2, which has yet to be replicated in any other game in the franchise....

Fans of The Sims 4 have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of a brand new game pack for a while. Thanks to the six-month roadmap laid out back in April and due to the release of the Eco Lifestyle Expansion and the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack since then, we knew it was just a matter of time before the final announcement came. The Sims franchise turned 20 at the beginning of this year, with its latest installment, The Sims 4, breaking records as its longest series to date. The premise of the games has always been to “play with life,” but as time passed, some players found their gaming experience lacking. It became apparent that some players, especially BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) couldn’t accurately depict what they, and others like them, look like in The Sims 4 because the dark skin tones were, put delicately, cosmetically displeasing....

Telltale Games revealed yesterday during PAX East 2017 that it will be releasing The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Episode 3 on March 28th. The new episode, dubbed “Above the Law,” will continue the story of Javi, the season’s new protagonist. The developer revealed a short trailer to the Pax East crowd that showed some exciting and emotional moments from The Walking Dead Season 3’s third episode. Those in attendance confirmed that the episode looks to live up to the previous two episodes in the season....

A witcher’s main source of income is contracts — small agreements made with paying folk who need some type of monster eradicated or problem dealt with. Geralt, the protagonist of the Witcher 3, is ready and willing to take on many of these contracts. In Novigrad, the large free city in Velen, Geralt can help out with eight different contracts of varying difficulty. Some of them take him out of the city’s limits, but the game considers them to be in Novigrad, so they’re included here....

Aside from being a commercial success, CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has become one of the company’s most popular games ever created, so much so that some may say it helped contribute to the company’s growth and help it become the most valuable gaming company in Europe. Now, the game is being given away to all PC players for free - with a small catch. Currently running until June 23, the giveaway allows console owners to claim a free copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt over at the GOG website and essentially allows them to re-experience the game on PC....

Star Wars: Squadrons surprised a lot of people with its low price tag when it launched just a week ago. This led some to wonder if there would be extensive content updates for the game, given that it’s pretty hard to imagine a brand new title coming in at under $40. Animal Crossing: New Horizons boasts an impressive repertoire of 397 villagers spanning 35 different species. That’s a lot of cuteness in one game. But at any given point, no more than ten villagers can simultaneously inhabit your island, meaning you’ll inevitably need to play favorites. Recently, the UK’s Blue Planet Aquarium - being fans of the game’s themes around nature and conservation - decided it would conduct some research into which villagers are the most popular amongst players, and which ones don’t quite cut it....
