Elon Musk’s SpaceX is preparing to launch its first manned rocket, which was postponed today due to weather but if successful could bode well for ongoing plans with Tom Cruise and NASA to shoot an action movie in space. Apparently this project will be directed by Doug Liman, who has previously worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow (2014) and American Made (2017). The movie idea has been planned by Liman and Cruise together according to an exclusive story from Deadline Tuesday....

Several top execs at FaZe Clan, an esports lifestyle conglomerate, will leave the group to start XSET, a competing firm. Founded in 2010, FaZe Clan has promoted gamers as social media influencers in their own right and grown from a small gaming club to a media giant that covers influencer marketing, content production, talent management and e-commerce. Lee Trink, the CEO of FaZe Clan, says the organization purposely embraced influencer culture and social media before others, yet Greg Selkoe, the club’s president, says the company must evolve, especially in light of the Black Lives Matter movement and the gaming industry’s own #MeToo moment....

On the 30th anniversary of Mana Livestream, it was announced that the 2020 remake Trials of Mana will be launching on iOS and Android on July 15. Twitch confirms that it has removed a police emote over concerns that it will be misused by users. The streaming platform is one of several gaming companies to have made changes following global protests against racial injustice and police brutality, with Sony choosing to delay its PS5 reveal event because of it. Speaking to The Verge, Twitch said that it had removed TwitchCop, an emote which shows a cartoon character in a police uniform blowing a whistle, from the site “to prevent misuse....

The history of video games is filled with missed opportunities, but to the surprise of many it turns out an X-Men game was canceled in the height of its popularity at the turn of the century. While there have been plenty of X-Men games since which have had varied success, the opportunity to pit X-Men against each other would have surely been exciting. Leo Scott and Ting Poo’s new documentary feature, Val, is not a mortality play. It is a rehearsal for an upcoming act. During a tour of his one-man stage show, Citizen Twain, Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer. The actor underwent two tracheostomies, and now can only speak while covering a tube. The narration of the new film is thus done by his son Jack Kilmer, allowing the pair to share a non-verbal connection throughout the journey, and through time and expression itself....

A new study suggests that a big why reason men are spending less time working than a decade ago is because of higher quality video games. While the study offers some interesting insights into the choices of working and non-working men in America, the conclusions aren’t quite as solid as one might think. Visceral Games, known for titles like Dead Space, was closed by EA last year and around the same time, it was announced that a Star Wars game the studio had been working on was basically cancelled and being taken over by EA Vancouver. Bungie releases the official reveal trailer for the Rise of Iron expansion for Destiny, confirming the expansion’s release date, and revealing new features. Following a number of leaks, Bungie has finally pulled the curtain back on the next expansion for Destiny in an official capacity. Called the Rise of Iron expansion, it will be available on September 20th for PS4 and Xbox One players, and could very well be the largest expansion in Destiny history....
