In 2018, once-powerful retail giant Toys R Us filed bankruptcy and closed over 700 stores in the United States. However, as announced about a month ago, Toys R Us is reopening in the United States, starting with just two new stores that will open at some point before the 2019 holiday season. And now we know where the new Toys R Us stores will be located. The new 10,000 square feet Toys R Us stores (about a third of the size of the original stores) will be located in The Galleria in Houston, Texas and in the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey....

Anyone following video game industry news has probably heard about the tumultuous last several months for Twitch as a platform. Alongside an influx of DMCA takedown notices, more Twitch streamers seem to be getting banned in recent weeks. There is great news today for streamers as Twitch begins to roll out Soundtrack, a new collection of free music that can be used while broadcasting that is fully licensed, removing the potential for copyright claims. The new tool is a great addition for all streamers and offers a new way for artists to be discovered by audiences. Soundtrack will provide streamers with two options, Playlists and Stations. The first are a set of tracks that will be updated regularly, while the second will offer a larger pool of rotating tracks from certain genres....

While Twitch’s latest string of bans has focused on removing creators facing sexual abuse allegations from its platform, it also appears to be taking a firmer stance on violent and hateful speech. Twitch recently made headlines for indefinitely suspending ex-YouTuber Leafy, and now it’s taken action against one of its own controversial figures. According to the streamer Steven “Destiny” Bonnell, Twitch has revoked his partnership for “encouragement of violence” in a recent stream....

Since the original YouTube “adpocalypse” in 2017, advertising has become a point of contention among content creators. While fraudulent or unsavory advertisements are still a problem for YouTubers that might mainly rely on advertiser revenue, Twitch partners and affiliates can also earn money through paid subscriptions, bits and donations. However, after using the Twitch donation messages for an ad campaign, the marketing firm Ogilvy is facing backlash and accusations of exploitation from Twitch streamers and viewers alike....

Continuing throughout this month, an exhibition gallery curated by Crystal Dynamics will be updated with new pieces of art from eight various acclaimed artists in celebration of Tomb Raider Lara Crofts’s 15-year anniversary. Valve is paying tribute to Rick May, the voice actor famous for his portrayal of Soldier in Team Fortress 2. In an update to the game, Valve is letting players grieve the loss of an iconic voice with several tributes. Statues of the Soldier have appeared in the game, which depict the character and read:“Rick May 1940-2020 - That was a hell of a campaign, son!” and deliver iconic quotes. Valve also included military taps to the the game’s menu, a nod to his character’s military inspiration....

Arizona Sunshine developer and publisher Vertigo Games has acquired VR venue management provider SpringboardVR. It was confirmed by the former that the acquisition had been completed for “an undisclosed amount.” Making a statement on the Vertigo Games website, the company stated that a number of key customer-facing members of SpringboardVR would be joining the Vertigo Games team. The main goal of the merger is to provide a “seamless service and operations for arcade operators,” as well as other game studios from around the world....
