Video game developer Black Matter and publisher Team 17 Digital recently swore Update 8 into its hardcore World War Two first-person shooter Hell Let Loose. This major update hauls more than 1,000 changes into the game, including a new map overhaul, changes to Support and Engineer roles, new supply and transport trucks, and many more. Because Update 8 is such a huge update, the devs felt it appropriate to name it The Red Ball Express, in honor of the military supply convoy system that delivered supplies to the fast-moving Allied Forces as they left the beaches of Normandy and fought deeper into Europe during World War Two....

Board game company USAOPOLY (The OP) recently announced The Shining: Escape from the Overlook Hotel, an at-home escape room game based on that Stanley Kubrick classic horror movie of horror movies, The Shining. The game is available now on The OP webstore for $29.99, fireman’s ax and typewriter not included. The Shining: Escape from the Overlook Hotel in one of The Op’s Coded Chronicles line of games that feature “a series of at-home escape room-style activities”....

The first DLC of 2021 for The Sims 4, Paranormal Stuff, is about to be released and information is coming thick and fast, mainly thanks to SimGuruConor, who has once again begun to reveal details of the pack through blogs on the Sims forum. Developer Frogwares has removed The Sinking City from Steam and other storefronts due to a legal battle with its distributor Bigben/Nacon. In a public statement, Frogwares describes a nightmare scenario that occurred while they developed their game in good faith with a publisher, only to have the relationship sour and devolve into a court battle over what appears to be blatant theft. Frogwares wrote an open letter that is available to read here on their website....

Earlier this week, a report began circulating that revealed the working title of this year’s Call of Duty game. Called WWII: Vanguard, sources said that it would return Call of Duty to the desperate days of the early 1940s and be spearheaded by Sledgehammer Games. That report also said that the setting could wind up as an alternate history where World War 2 didn’t end in 1945. Now we’re getting reports from Eurogamer that Vanguard will be a “traditional WW2 setting,” but the rest of those earlier rumors are true....

Ubisoft shared some exciting news with fans via Twitter earlier today, as the company will soon be hosting a digital showcase featuring exclusive news about its games. Though the date and time was also given, not much else is known about the nature of this event or what kind of news might be shared. The event itself, called Ubisoft Forward (#UbiForward), is set to go live on July 12th at 12 PM PDT, and at the time of writing (just one short hour after the post was made), it has already garnered over 60,000 views on Twitter....

No sooner does Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot issue an open letter essentially declaring “mission accomplished” on its metamorphosis from toxic work environment to model corporate games publisher do we get a brand new direction for where the company wants to focus its efforts. As Axios reports, Ubisoft has filed new documents confirming new multi-year goals that direct its CEO to reduce the company’s emissions in order to achieve bonus payments of up to $200,000 (in stock options)....

Free-to-play games continue to be a hugely popular component of the gaming market, and Ubisoft has taken notice, with the company making it clear it aims to broaden its horizons in this space moving forward with new titles based on existing franchises instead 3-4 standalone blockbusters a year. Last year saw Ubisoft release the hugely successful Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion, and although the company continues to report record numbers in terms of growth and sales overall, the rise of free games like Genshin Impact and the continuous Fortnite revolution has forced it to reevaluate its financial goals in the long term....

Fuck The Police - there’s my Umurangi Generation review. Read on if you want to see my thoughts on the game’s various modes, progression, level design, and aesthetics, but nothing will sell what the game is at its very core more than those three words. In some cases, “fuck the police,” can seem like quite a childish sentiment. Remember Tomb Raider Underworld? The eighth installment of the beloved Tomb Raider series, which has since been a little bit forgotten about? Turns out that game was somewhat of a big deal in the field of AI research and large-scale data analysis in gaming. Crystal Dynamic developed Underworld which released way back in 2008 (can you believe that?) as somewhat of a reboot for the series. It was the reboot before the next (critically-acclaimed) reboot of Tomb Raider in 2013....

Reddit is no stranger to public drama, and Valve’s own Gabe Newell has provided this aplenty yesterday when he not only confirmed the firing of a prominent host, but called him an ass whilst doing so. Fans watching the DOTA 2 Shanghai Major last night may have been confused as to why James “2GD” Harding was replaced as the official host in the middle of the day, and astoundingly, he was shortly followed by the tournament’s entire production company, KeyTV....

After a year away due to the pandemic, Marvel Studios is finally kicking off Phase 4 of its ongoing, expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe with…a sitcom. WandaVision, which premieres Friday (Jan. 15) on Disney+, stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as the supernaturally powerful Wanda Maximoff and the equally enhanced synthezoid Vision, with the newly married couple navigating life in suburban Westview, a black and white setting right out of classic half-hour comedies like The Dick van Dyke Show or Bewitched, complete with live audience....
