As Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues to receive updates, it appears Call of Duty 2020 may be announced at any time. Call of Duty 2020 is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, the studio that helped create Call of Duty: Warzone with Infinity Ward, and teasers for the upcoming title have been appearing all throughout the free-to-play battle royale. These Call of Duty: Warzone teasers have been coded messages in Russian, and other similar hints toward Call of Duty 2020’s supposed Cold War setting — in fact, the game is believed to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War....

While many companies offer livestreaming services, Twitch is arguably still the biggest name in the video game industry dedicated to hosting streamers. The most-watched game on Twitch this August was League of Legends with over 135 million hours, according to software developer StreamElements, and the top three categories on the site that month accumulated over 400 million hours alone. One good way to continue expanding an audience is to make services more accessible to everyone, and that’s exactly what Twitch is doing now....

Live streaming platform Twitch has continued to go from strength to strength. The service, which allows its users to stream and watch broadcasts of people playing games, performing music or doing day to day tasks, is so popular that it has more viewers than Netflix and HBO. But HBO and Netflix aren’t the only two major media companies that Twitch is outperforming. According to analyst Benjamin Schachter, of investment banking and financial service firm the Macquarie Group, Twitch is now managing to outperform CNN and MSNBC, the American cable news channels....

In an uncharacteristically jam-packed winter, Ghost Recon: Wildlands is one of the next AAA games to hit shelves in early March. The game arrives just a week after the Switch and Breath of the Wild, but will likely still sell plenty of copies by appealing to more of the shooter market....

Just to recap, Twitch removed the PogChamp emote on Wednesday after its creator, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, said some pretty awful stuff on Twitter that basically incited the Capitol Building insurrectionists to commit more acts of violence. He was resoundingly admonished by pretty much everyone, including Twitch, and anything with his likeness got booted off the platform. At the time, Twitch acknowledged that getting rid of the PogChamp emote would be a blow to its entire subculture and promised that they’d come up with a new emote as soon as possible....

When gamers dump as many hours into a title as a lot of people have been with Fortnite, a little change in scenery becomes very important. Replaying the same map and mode on repeat can become a little monotonous even in the most engaging games, so giving players a lot of options to make their player stand out is crucial. We all knew it was going to happen, but now it’s official – Valheim has crossed the three million units sold threshold. Developer Iron Gate made the announcement on Steam earlier today, thanking all its supporters and sharing a few of its accolades. Valheim was inching close to that coveted three million mark a few days ago, and it didn’t take long to finally cross it. The survival game has become an instant success – not only is it selling well, but everyone who gets their hands on the game seems to love everything it has to offer....

Iron Gate’s latest update for Valheim has squashed a few more bugs, most notably one that would cause the player’s tombstone to disappear after dying. Without a tombstone to interact with, there’s no way to recover items lost upon death – so it’s a big deal that the nagging issue is finally fixed. While the tombstone update is arguably the best part of the patch, several smaller changes help to smooth out your Early Access experience....

Back in the summer of last year, Valve finally addressed a long-standing issue with Steam by creating rules surrounding payment options. No longer would users be able to simply set their region to whatever they wanted through the use of a VPN in order to find a better deal for Steam games. Instead, users had to provide a payment option from within the local region in order to purchase games....

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has long been a revered luminary within the PC gaming community, as his company has put out several of the most popular multiplayer releases in existence, such as Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Dota 2. Throughout the Dragon Ball metaseries, Goku has fought and defeated a myriad of alien invaders, each one stronger than the last. Pop culture creative agency Orange Nebula recently launched the Kickstarter campaign for the next release of its Vindication board game, this time including the all-new Chronicles Expansion, and a re-release of Vindication-related items that were previously sold out. This Kickstarter launched on December 9 with a $62,500 goal. The project has funded successfully, with as of this writing over $310,500 and over 4,000 backers, and there are still 19 days remaining in the campaign....

After Battlefield Hardline was announced, many were skeptical of the game’s separation from the traditional Battlefield series. Sure, it was less about the military, and more about cops stopping criminals, but the pacing, guns, vehicles and the massive amount of people playing together are all too common for the series. As a result and despite the game’s beta that drew in over 7 million people, some out there are still wondering if Hardline should even be considered a new Battlefield game, rather than a re-skin of Battlefield 4....

Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe franchise will continue to be shaped by Walter Hamada for the foreseeable future. The film executive and producer has signed a multi-year extension to remain on board as President of DC Films through 2023. Hamada’s tenure as President of DC Films began in 2018 after previously serving as executive vice president of production at Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema. Until then, the DC Films division and the DC Extended Universe franchise had been run by the subsidiary’s founders, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns....

After reaching a settlement with the FTC over Shadow of Mordor promotion, Warner Bros. agrees that it will make full disclosure of paid promotion in future. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was extremely well-received when it was released in 2014, winning a wide variety of awards and providing a solid addition to the library of Lord of the Rings video games. The title was a darling of both the press and gamers in general, but it turns out that not all of the game’s promotion was purely based around quality of content....
