Every January, the film conversation turns to what was the sterling best of the previous year, and which profound drama has the best chance of winning many little gold statues. And if the impending year is considered at all, it is almost exclusively reserved for the blockbusters whose simple existence makes fans giddy. Yet, not enough attention ever seems paid to the kind of movies that cause filmgoers to grasp their armrests — or another’s arm on said rests — after the lights go out....

As we approach the last hours of 2014, there are still a few end of year lists to discuss. We’ve talked about our most played games of the year, our favorite MMOs, and the games that we think flew under the radar; but we’ve yet to talk about what gamers as a whole preferred to play in 2014. That’s a hard list to make, but PlayStation attempted to to get an answer by polling its community of fans....

It seems that Twitch is constantly making deals left and right; after recently acquiring exclusive broadcast rights for the Overwatch League, it has been revealed that the company has brokered a deal with Disney, securing exclusive content from some of the top YouTubers today. The deal, which includes YouTubers Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Strawburry17, and LuzuGamers, means each of the aforementioned will “livestream and create video on-demand content for Twitch, as part of a multi-year partnership....

Since its debut trailer, Ghost of Tsushima has been hotly anticipated. One of two games centered on samurai combat that caught attention (the other at the time being Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice), its impressive graphics and mysterious nature intrigued many. With Ghost of Tsushima having officially gone gold, the wait is almost over. The story of Ghost of Tsushima is still fairly vague, but much more is known about it now....

In May of this year, the first footage of gameplay within an environment built using Unreal Engine 5 was released by Epic Games. While its graphical fidelity doubled as a glimpse into the PS5/Xbox Series X generation’s capabilities, Epic later confirmed that the engine could run on the Nintendo Switch too, in addition to a number of other popular devices including mobile operating systems. That said, the Switch does run into problems with ports of games that were developed using versions of Unreal Engine older than its fourth....

Riot Game’s new competitive FPS, Valorant, is getting highly detailed weapon skins that turn guns into living dragons. As the first of the “Ultimate Edition” skins, the dragons set a high bar for anything that comes next in the game. Part of the “Elderflame” line, the skins convert several guns and the knife into dragons, which move around and breathe fire. The dragons are a grey-black color, with the fire inside highlighting minor details on each weapon....

After waiting for fifteen years, the fans of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines can prepare to take on the role of an undead once more, as Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has been announced for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Vampire: The Masquerade started out as a tabletop RPG that was similar in function to Dungeons & Dragons, except that the players took on the roles of vampires (who referred to themselves as the Kindred) in contemporary society....

Cambion Drift, Warframe’s latest open world, takes the standard formula of open worlds and twists it slightly with the inclusion of the Infested alongside new bounties. One of these new bounties involves looting Isolation Vaults. These are the closest thing the Cambion Drift has to Eidolon Hunts or Orb fights, and while it isn’t nearly as intense, they offer a lot of rewards. Rare materials, Necramech parts, and reliable resource drops are just a few things players can expect from the new bounty type....

Most of today’s gamers should remember the GameBoy Advance. Nowadays, it is pretty easy to find a decent GBA simulator for PC in order to relive those nostalgic digital battles. Some GBA games may even be worth more than one would think. The Advance Wars series is surely a good example. It was a turn-based tactical strategy game, featuring modern-age units and troops, such as tanks, fighters, warships. Now, Wargroove seems to be a “spiritual successor” of the popular AW series, although set in a more fantasy-like world....

Light machine guns don’t usually make the list of top weapons currently available in Call of Duty: Warzone, however, the Bruen MK9 consistently ranks in the top 10 weapons currently available. There is clear dominance in Warzone by the M4A1 and MP7 in terms of sheer usage numbers, as the weapons are readily available throughout Verdansk, often leaving LMGs as an afterthought. However, the Bruen often sneaks its way into top tier rankings because it can essentially be converted into an incredibly lethal Assault Rifle....

I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember. I remember getting stuck on a Toy Story 2 level as a kid and having my stepdad help me through it. I’ve never been shy about asking for help or looking up a guide if I’m well and truly having trouble. One of the biggest requests for the next Mass Effect game - I’ll be calling it Mass Effect 4 here, because Mass Effect 5ers are heathens - is multiple playable races. Across the Mass Effect trilogy and Andromeda, we’ve only been able to play as a human, selecting our Shepard’s gender in the original trilogy and choosing which Ryder twin to play as in Andromeda. We meet - and fight alongside - several other races, while several more are minimized to background roles....

At first, it seemed like Xbox had so much momentum moving into the next generation of console gaming. PlayStation’s silence up until earlier this year was becoming deafening, while Microsoft had already unveiled the Xbox Series X at The Game Awards in 2019. All of the good faith changes with Game Pass and Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer seemed to put Xbox in a prime spot for this generation. Now with Halo Infinite’s delay, the Xbox Series X takes a massive hit to its forward momentum....

That Unreal 5 Engine demo? It’s technically playable, although we won’t actually be able to play it thanks to coronavirus. Today, Epic announced their new Unreal Engine 5, the latest and greatest iteration of the game-making engine that powers everything from Fortnite to Borderlands 3. To showcase the new technology, Epic created a technology demo called Lumen in the Land of Nanite and played it using a PlayStation 5. It’s not a real game, but more like the playable part of a game that’s designed to just show off what this new game engine can do....

Though The Sims franchise has prided itself on being able to play with life, it wasn’t until December 2020 that many players were actually able to depict themselves accurately in-game. The skin tone update that changed The Sims 4 came in two waves—one in October, and the bigger, more expansive update in December. Over 100 different skin tones were added to the game for both PC and console players, allowing a lot more customization options for Sim skin tones....

Mega Evolution was one of Pokemon’s most interesting features and one that bled into the anime. The same few Pokemon that can Mega Evolve in the games can also do so in the anime, through the same methods of using a Mega Stone. Naturally, that means some Pokemon will have access to extra strength when needed, and some trainers have taken advantage of that phenomenon in battle. Some of the anime universe’s strongest trainers have some equally strong Mega Evolutions to flaunt, and these are the best of the best....
