Humor and fear are very similar. Each elicit involuntary responses. A scream is as much a reflex as a laugh. They are both physiological ways to deal with the unexpected. Horror comedies mix the two different physiological responses and swap them. Sometimes you need to scream and you wind up laughing but sometimes you expect to laugh but let out a shriek. The mixture fills several emotional needs at the same time....
Every so often I’ll play a game that fits in the category of “so bad it’s good.” The kind of game that’s so hilariously bad that it’s almost worth playing just to experience its special brand of awfulness. The Uncertain: Light At The End almost fits into this category. It has a special blend of generic story, atrocious dialogue, and stiff controls. Add in the fact that it seems to really want to be Telltale’s The Walking Dead and you have a recipe for a gaming disaster that would be worth playing for a laugh if it wasn’t so dreadful to actually play....

One of the most widely anticipated games before release, The Wild Hunt shattered every expectation — and record — upon release, serving as a perfect end to Geralt’s epic story and allowing gamers to experience one of the most detailed and story-rich video games of all time....
Given the fact that Netflix fantasy series The Witcher is based, at least in part, on a series of video games about a magical monster hunter, you’d be forgiven for almost immediately assuming that the presence of women in this story is likely to be minimal at best. (Or that those who do appear would be both simply drawn and scantily clad.) But the franchise–from streaming series and video games to the Andrzej Sapkowski novels and short stories upon which it is all based–is actually surprisingly feminist, granting its female characters the sort of agency and interiority that is not always guaranteed in genre fiction generally, or fantasy television specifically....
Though it has been over a month since the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake, fans have recently discovered that a terrifying enemy was scrapped from the final version of the game. From running away from a giant, hungry alligator to avoiding the ever-present Tyrant, the game offers genuine thrills and stressful moments. With a big title such as this, there are inevitably going to be some ideas that were left on the cutting room floor....
This week marks over one month since the release of the Ashes of Outlands expansion for Hearthstone. Throughout 2019 Blizzard made significant changes to the established meta in each expansion through either balance changes, the addition of new cards, or sometimes both. While players might expect to see something similar in the coming week or two, Blizzard has been oddly silent on the matter. This may be because the Demon Hunter class has needed repeated nerfs, and likely needs a third round to lower its win rates....

Titans Season 2 Episode 12 This week’s Titans, titled “Faux-Hawk,” involves a teenage impostor who briefly picks up the mantle left behind by strung-out Hank — but it’s the show itself that fakes us out by stringing along the reveal of the Nightwing costume. Still, this episode is overall an enjoyable, if drawn out, tale while our team is slowly regrouping. As Dick’s jailbird graffiti confirmed last week, Jericho is indeed alive — but stuck inside Slade’s head....
ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove is a game that asks you to chill out while you play. The text never explicitly says that, but the sentiment is implied in everything from the soundtrack to the way the characters walk. Due to this, your perception of the game will depend heavily on how you go into it. You can come out of it feeling like you just had the chillest hangout ever, or wondering what even the point of this game is....
Last year, Tony Hawk launched a text message subscription service that he would use to respond to fan questions - even revealing which of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games was his all time favorite. Now, he’s used the service once again to let his fans in early on some huge news: Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 remasters are coming soon. The news was later confirmed by the game’s brand new twitter account, and then officially revealed once more by Tony himself....
It’s tough to imagine a world without RPG games, but the fact is they haven’t been around for very long. The first games were written, produced, and played in the late 1960s in tabletop form, and focused on fantasy settings and themes. The transition to video didn’t happen until a generation later, and other types of RPG genres (like post-apocalyptic or survival horror) wouldn’t evolve until years after that. There are a lot of RPG games from the 1980s and 1990s that still have a lot of vintage charm....
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be taking center stage for the upcoming Call of Duty League season in 2021, and there will be some changes. The Call of Duty League will have new rules requiring player contestants to use a PC and controller for the esports tournament. Alongside this development, Treyarch is going a step further for pro players’ involvement in the tournament. It’s hard to imagine pretty much anyone from the Assassin’s Creed series being appropriate for children, but apparently Ubisoft thinks that their franchise of murderers just needs a bit of a kid-friendly makeover in the form of a series of children’s books. Ubisoft is teaming up with Adam Hargreaves, author and illustrator of the Little Miss and Mr. Men series of children’s literature, to bring us a new series of illustrated short stories based on Assassin’s Creed....
Earlier this year, a line of Assassin’s Creed Mega Bloks toys was announced, and now we’ve heard a little bit more about what this move means for the future of the series. VALORANT, the new first-person shooter from League of Legends developer Riot Games, goes into a closed beta period this week. The tactical shooter features a cast of characters, called agents, that are available for play. Moroccan surveillance expert Cypher is VALORANT’s eye in the sky. Each VALORANT agent has four abilities. Two of these are basic, which are available to buy at the beginning of a round. The agents also have one signature ability, which is automatically available at the start of each round, and an ultimate ability, which must be charged before it can be used....
