The Outer Worlds, the sci-fi action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox One back in October 2019. A few months before release, the developers revealed that The Outer Worlds would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch, though a launch date wasn’t announced until the beginning of 2020.
The Switch port was supposed to release on March 6th, but in February the game’s publisher Private Division announced that it would be delayed. Now, it has been revealed that the sci-fi RPG will be releasing instead on June 5th.
There are no prizes for guessing the reason for the delay, and indeed the coronavirus outbreak was cited by Private Division as the primary cause. There has been one upside of the delay however, and that’s that the physical copies of the game will now include an actual cartridge, instead of just a download code.
Created by the writers of the original Fallout games, The Outer Worlds launched to largely positive reviews on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If its Switch port, which was handled by developers Virtuos, can live up to this success, then we can expect it to inspire even more ported releases for Nintendo’s hybrid console in the future.
The Outer Worlds is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and will soon be available for Nintendo Switch.
