The PC Gaming Show 2020 has finally touched down, gracing us mortals with a smattering of various new arrivals and upcoming titles.
Our hosts were the wonderfully charming Sean “Day9” Plott and Frankie Ward, both of whom did an excellent job with the presentation. The show opened on a strong, emotional note, as Day9 offered words of solidarity and recommended support via The Bundle For Racial Justice & Equality. The showcase itself lasted over 2 hours and at the end of the day, unfortunately, there weren’t many show-stoppers. However, there were plenty of intriguing titles that each show promise in their respective genres. Here is a full breakdown of this year’s PC Gaming Show appearances, proceeding chronologically.
Persona 4 Golden, Torchlight III, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey
The show opened up with a trailer for Valheim, a Viking-inspired survival and exploration game. It seemed like an odd way to kick things off, especially considering the game’s low-pixel graphics style which left many unimpressed. Ooblets came after, a goofy “life simulation” game arriving this summer on the Epic Games Store.
Torchlight III followed as the first title to turn heads, as it was revealed to be available now in early access on Steam. Next, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey showed off some pre-alpha, in-engine footage with an impressive trailer. The base game is available now with Odyssey coming early in 2021 as DLC, allowing players to finally set foot on planets.
Perhaps the most exciting news of the entire showcase was the announcement of Persona 4 Golden’s PC debut – available now on steam. Short but sweet, the news instantly hyped up Persona fans.
In Sound Mind came afterwards, impressing horror enthusiasts with some creepy footage. Even better – its developers revealed that a new, free demo is live on Steam. Airborne Kingdom is a (floating) city management-exploration adventure, coming Fall 2020 to EGS. For RTS fanatics, Dwarfheim aims to bring a unique coop experience to the genre. Its multiplayer beta signup is now open, the test-run occurring from June 19-21.
New Blood Interactive, Fae Tactics, EVERSPACE 2
Rivaling the Persona 4 Golden news was New Blood Interactive’s short PC Gaming Show 2020 segment. The publisher wasted no time showcasing gameplay from 6 action-packed titles within a short trailer. The lineup included DUSK, AMID EVIL, MAXIMUM Action, Unfortunate Spacemen, ULTRAKILL, and FAITH.
Otherwise, historical strategy game Humankind boasted its gameplay, coming 2021. Icarus was next, a space-colony survival game built by Dean Hall of DayZ. Rebellion’s Evil Genius 2: World Domination followed, coming 2020. Godfall showcased its first official PC gameplay, also arriving Holiday 2020 – and it looks incredible using Unreal Engine 5. Inversely, Prodeus appeals to a retro audience, resembling a DOOM-style shooter, early access coming Fall 2020.
Fae Tactics is a humble title coming out Summer 2020, but one that shouldn’t be slept on. As Day9 mentioned in the show, it resembles the style of Final Fantasy Tactics, an incredible game for its time.
Carto is a beautiful, stylized game coming Fall 2020. Project: Wingman is a fighter pilot simulation/combat game coming Summer 2020. Blankos: Block Party looks to be a cute multiplayer experience, launching at the end of the year. Inkulinati boasts an original art-style, set for 2021. Total War Saga: TROY is a historical strategy game arriving in 2021 as well.
EVERSPACE 2 is a title that I can vouch for, as I got my hands on a demo during PAX South 2020. It took up a short slot in the show, but its gameplay showcase was nothing to bat an eye out. Futuristic spaceship combat has never felt so good.
Remnant: From The Ashes - Subject 2923 & Mafia: Definitive Edition
Two of the heaviest hitters came back-to-back in the middle of the show: the world reveal of Remnant: From The Ashes - Subject 2923 (arriving on August 20th) and Mafia: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the beloved trilogy (coming August 28).
Afterwards came a handful of fairly interesting titles, depending on your taste. Rogue Lords is a turn-based rougelike with dark, Gothic visuals, coming 2021; Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy is another rougelike with a beta coming soon; Dauntless just received more content with Call of the Void, available to play right now; the gorgeous Among Trees is in early access now on EGS; Potionomics is a unique shop-sim coming to PC; Mortal Shell is a gritty soulslike RPG coming in 2020 to EGS, with a July 3 beta; the announcement trailer for Shadow Man: Remastered was a huge hit with nostalgic fans; Blightbound is a cooperative dungeon crawler, soon to see an early access this year.
The PC Gaming Show 2020 had plenty for indie fans too, showcasing gameplay from Shadows of Doubt, The Forgotten City, Paradise Killer, Haven, Cartel Tycoon, Trash Sailors, Cris Tales, and Alaloth: Champion of the Four Kingdoms.
Weird West, Red Sails, The Outlast Trials
Devolver Digital doesn’t seem to know how to put out anything bad, and with Weird West’s new gameplay trailer, that trend isn’t breaking soon. The upcoming aslfkagjkals;g , with a demo promised for in near-future.
A title that jumped out from the crowd was definitely Red Sails, a sand-sailing game with a stunning art-style.
The last hurrah of the presentation yielded some strong appearances. Hello World’s The Last Campfire looks like it’ll pull some heartstrings, coming to EGS Summer 2020. Escape From Tarkov promised new content with an upcoming map that will be “the biggest, most detailed” ever. Lastly, The Outlast Trials concluded the show summer 2021 – and boy does it look freaky.
Oh, and Gloomwood has demo now available, revealed as an special after-credits bonus.
Overall, Day9 and Frankie brought plenty of personality to the show – the latter bringing a guinea pig to the conclusion. Did we require an explanation for the wholesome creature? Of course not. As for the games themselves – there was enough to hold the audience’s attention, but it only filled a portion of the void left in our hearts, courtesy of a cancelled E3 conference.
