The Pokémon Center’s unbelievably popular Halloween Collection has been updated for 2020 and TheGamer got to take a look at a variety of different products in the set. From plushies to costume-hats to statues and apparel, there’s so much to choose from and so many ways to celebrate the fall season.
Of all the seasonal themes, the Halloween Collection is consistently the most popular thanks in large part to costumed plushies. Whoever came up with the idea of Pokémon dressed up like other Pokémon for Halloween deserves a corner office and their own parking spot because collectors are absolutely obsessed with them.
This year there are some really incredible options. We got to take a look at all 4 full-sized plushies: Yamper dressed as Galarian Zigzagoon, Whimsicott dressed as Galarian Wheezing, Pikachu dressed as Hattrem, and Morpeko dressed as Gengar. These plushies stand about 9" tall and are packed with tiny details and high-quality materials.
What makes the plushies so special is the way each Pokémon is reimagined as the materials of a costume. For example, Gengar is a multi-layered cloak that Morpeko wears, each layer of the cloak flows out to give a ghostly effect, and the strap that holds it together has Gengar’s tongue. They’re also incredible soft, especially the Whimsicott plush wearing Galarian Wheezing’s smoke stacks like hats with a matching vest and bowtie. Pokémon Center products are known for being made with high-quality materials and built to last, and these plushies are great examples of that.
The Halloween themed apparel just happens to heavily feature 2 of my favorite Pokémon: Umbreon and Gengar. Interestingly, all of the clothing is incredibly minimalist. The shirts with the most complex designs — like the Light of the Moon: Umbreon shirt and Light of the Sun: Espeon shirt — are still fairly minimal in their artwork. The rest of the t-shirts, long sleeves, and hoodies are almost stealthy in presenting their designs.
One of my favorites pieces in the collection are the Eyes of Gengar and Phases Of The Night: Umbreon zip-up hoodies. They’re just warm, black hoodies with tiny character logos on the chest, but if you look at the inside of the hood you’ll find beautiful, complex character patterns. The selection is definitely in the streetwear category, but the designs are so subtle it almost feels like when I wear this stuff I’m repping Pokémon incognito and only other Poké fans will notice. This is casual apparel you can definitely wear anywhere.
It wouldn’t be Halloween without some costumes, and this year the Pokémon Center is delivery with some awesome plush hats. The best of bunch is a reversible Morpeko hat that can flip back and forth between normal and hangry mode. It’s adorable and I’ve been wearing it around the house just to passively communicate my mood. The other 2 plush hats, Litwick and Hattren, have really great detail and build quality and are basically big pillows you can wear on your head.
There’s so much more great stuff in the Halloween Collection, especially if you’re looking for little gifts for kids. There are backpack hangers of the Galarian starters in costume, Pikachu-in-a-pumpkin card sleeves for the Pokémon TCG, playmats, posters, and so much more.
It’s so much fun seeing many of the new Galar Pokémon represented in this year’s Halloween collection, and the quality of the products is better than ever before. Check out the livestream below where we open a bunch of different product for our Facebook audience.
