The Predator: Hunting Grounds’ box art is fantastic, but it’s too bad the game itself isn’t too great.
Last weekend, The Predator: Hunting Grounds hosted its first public beta test. The game itself is scheduled for release on April 24, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for developers Illfonic to change things up based on player feedback.
In case you haven’t heard, Hunting Grounds is an asymmetric shooter where one player plays the Predator while the rest play as a team of human soldiers. The soldiers are tasked with completing a pretty standard shooter objective like “go here, retrieve this, don’t die,” while the Predator is tasked with brutally murdering all the other players.
The concept is simple and very much in-theme with the whole Predator cinematic universe, but apparently the execution left a lot to be desired.
According to Inverse, playing as the soldiers felt like playing a particularly bad first-person shooter while playing as the Predator only felt marginally better. Graphics were also the main complaint, with Hunting Grounds being described as an early-gen PS4 game rather than one that’s here just before the arrival of the PS5.
On the plus side, there’s still time for Illfonic to get things fixed. That and the box art is pretty neat.
