The Sims 4 is all about living the life of your dreams through your Sims. Choose the career you want, build the house you’ve always dreamed of and use cheats to get all the simoleons in the world. With mods, the possibilities become even more endless, and ultimately the game is sort of the best guilty pleasure game out there.

However, guilty pleasure doesn’t always mean all is well in the world of your Sims. It’s also incredibly amusing and fun to make the lives of Sims particularly difficult, only to watch them try and scramble through their lives. In a game so focused on happiness, it’s a cool change of pace. One great way to annoy your Sims is to build them a house they’ll desperately want to move out of.

10 Too Much Clutter

Good houses will usually have a balance of space and objects, since that allows Sims to move around efficiently through the space and reach everything they need. That being said, a house that would annoy Sims is undoubtedly a house where it’s difficult to even get across one room.

Put as much furniture as you can cram into each room, and Sims will not only move slowly but also have to move past each other or through one another. This will waste their time, especially when they’re in a hurry to find the bathroom.

9 Too Big

Let’s talk about the size of a house. Depending on the size of the family that will live in it, the sizing tends to be important. However, if the goal is to just piss of your Sim, you can go as big as you want. Even better, make sure you only have one or two Sims on a huge lot that has a ton of rooms.

This will force them to jog around the lot to get from one place to another. Make sure important rooms like bathrooms and kitchens are as far from each other and the bedrooms as possible.

8 Too Small

With the Tiny Living stuff pack, the definition of what a small house is has been revolutionized in the game. One of the funniest things is trying to build the tiniest house for a family of eight, which is pretty much impossible due to the lack of beds.

That being said, it’s the ultimate best way to watch Sims struggle to find a space to sleep in, queue for shower and bathroom, as well as complain at every turn that someone’s standing in their way.

7 Low Quality Objects

It’s not just the build itself that needs to be infuriating for your Sims to navigate through, but the objects need to be annoying as well. What could be worse for a Sim just wanting to live comfortably than a bunch of objects that are low quality and prone to making them uncomfortable?

Get the cheapest fridge, microwave, bed, sink and shower. They’ll break sooner and some of them, like the bed, will actually make your Sim uncomfortable with a special moodlet.

6 Annoying Lot Traits

Just as Sims have traits, so do lots, and another way to make a lot absolutely unbearable is to include some negative lot traits on it, which will constantly chip away at your Sims’ happiness. They’ll include negative moodlets and introduce unfortunate events when least expected (or most needed, depending how you view things).

Apartment lots in particular have a few of cool traits, such as noisy neighbors and the needs TLC option which introduces a bunch of flaws. Gremlins and earthquakes are also a fantastic way to regularly irritate and freak your Sims out.

5 Inconvenient Doors

Doors are the easiest way to really make your Sims hate their lives. Placing them in spots that definitely don’t make moving around the house convenient or by not including some at all in certain locations will really make them unhappy. Would be a real shame if somebody just “forgot” to put a door in the bathroom, right?

Doors can also be used to create unnecessary and long detours your Sims need to take to get to the closest location with a sink to clean their dishes or a place that has a chair for them to sit down.

4 Stairs That Last Forever

There’s a feature that’s lacking from The Sims 4, and it’s the fact that Sims can’t run up or down the stairs. No matter how much they’re in a hurry, they’ll slow down to a generic pace and descend or ascend stairs in an agonizingly slow manner. This feature can be exploited very easily.

Just ensure that there’s stairs absolutely everywhere in the house. Your Sim needs to get inside the house? They’ll need to climb these long stairs to the front door. Your Sim is tired and needs sleep? Make sure their bed is on the fourth floor, and make sure each level has the tallest wall height.

3 Endless Hallways And Mazes

While Sims can’t get lost due to being relatively intelligent AIs with the ability to create a path through the hardest of terrains, it’s still possible to further waste their time. Why not put a hedge maze in front of their house? That way, everytime they want to get inside they’ll have to walk through a maze for an hour or two.

The same thing can be done within the house itself. Create maze-like hallways, secret doors and narrow pathways through walls that take your Sim through a whole trek before bringing them to their destination. With ladders and the terrain tool in the game, there’s even more quirky building options.

2 Fenced Off Swimming Pool

Swimming pools are generally the sign of a wealthy family, but how about a swimming pool that for some reason has a fence around it? It requires a bit of preparation to annoy (or kill) Sims this way, but it’s still a classic way to make your Sims’ lives absolutely miserable.

Since removing ladders isn’t enough these days due to Sims being able to climb out of pools, add a fence around the pool once a Sim is swimming. Then just sit back and wait. Your other Sims will start panicking, too, once they’ll realize there’s dead body in the pool.

1 Fire Hazards

What’s the worst enemy of every Sim? Fire, without a doubt. While having a low quality stove is a great way to get started with fire hazards, there’s still a few additional objects that can really “crank up the heat”. Death might be a side effect, however.

The fireplace is a classic and easy way to start a fire indoors. Just put some carpets in front of it, and eventually they should catch fire. Those who have Seasons and Laundry Day can also start a fire by tampering with the Christmas tree lights or by continuously using the drier without ever cleaning the lint compartment.
