In The Sims 4, supernatural life states have been handled in a different way to previous games. While The Sims 3 introduced several at once, this time around they’ve come gradually with game packs and expansions.
The first supernaturals we really took notice of were vampires who, unlike the aliens that came before them, were very well developed and had their own game pack. When Realm of Magic was released, it became obvious that the pack’s spellcaster life state was very similar.
Becoming a spellcaster is easy but mastering magic is another story. If you want to pursue a magical life then here are some tips to help you along the way.
10 Familiars Save Lives
Having a familiar will do more than just make your spellcaster look the part. Familiars save lives. Once per sim week your familiar can step in and take the hit for you if an overload is about to make you expire.
If you’re planning on dueling until you end up on the floor covered in soot, then make sure you summon your trusted companion first. You can even have several familiars, although only one can be summoned at once, so there is no excuse.
9 Cats and Dogs Can Forage For Potion Ingredients
If you’re a traditionalist then you can make your faithful feline into your familiar. For those who like to buck the trend, a dog can also become your loyal companion. Both will serve the same death-defying function as regular familiar but they also have another advantage.
A spellcasters loyal pet can be sent to forage through the magical realm for potion ingredients, saving you time and money when trying to boost your skills.
8 Brooms Can be A Primary Mode Of Transport
For an amazing supernatural vibe, you can set your broom as a primary mode of transport. Not only does it look great but it will help you get around larger neighborhoods much faster.
There are a wide range of brooms available from the store in the magical realm. They range from ornate or traditional through to a squeezy mop, complete with a cheap-looking sponge.
7 You Can Cast Secretly
Spellcasting in public often has negative effects, with townies being suspicious of your powers. This is the reason automated spellcasting is prohibited. However, if you want to cause mayhem with no repercussions there’s a perk for that.
The spectral reach perk will allow you to cast from further away and will also stop passers-by from realizing what you are doing. With this activated you can cause a large amount of chaos and simply walk away, denying all knowledge.
6 You Can Keep Acquiring Perk Points
Once you’ve hit the maximum rank of virtuoso it doesn’t mean you’ll stop acquiring perk points. Duels, casting, potion making and more will still all reward spellcaster XP. For every 500 points you gain, you’ll get another reward point.
This means that if you practice enough the sky’s the limit and you can literally learn everything there is to know about magic and rack up a huge number of powerful perks.
5 The Magical Realm Is Full Of Surprises
The magical realm not only looks amazing but it’s full of helpful surprises. The stores have rotating stock to help you acquire the basics and different areas have hidden plants to pick. Make sure your sim checks out all the different islands you can get to. There are no loading screens and thus no excuses.
We also recommend hitting up the bookshelves and searching for tomes as well as checking for objects around the Magical HQ that you can click on. Both of these actions will yield powerful rewards including new familiars.
4 Untamed Magic Causes The Most Chaos
There are three types of magic, practical, mischief and untamed. Extensive testing shows that if you want to cause some chaos then the untamed magic branch is better than the mischief one.
This is because while mischief magic is cheeky, allowing you to steal or transform people into random objects, the effects are quite minor. However, untamed magic allows you to start fires, control other sims, summon ghosts and more.
3 You Can Severely Unsettle A Spellcaster
If you want to unsettle your spellcaster or play a storyline with a difference, then the night wraith is here for you. Summoned by a curse, it stalks your sim, refusing to let them sleep and freaking them out.
Sims can get so scared that they literally wet themselves and collapse on the floor. The night wraith is genuinely one of the most unsettling features of the game, so summon it wisely or dispatch of it quickly.
2 Potions Are Incredibly Powerful
Potion making is a great way to fulfill some needs and desires. Increase skill generation, boost all your needs, reset your moodlets or even make sims love you. Potions can do all these things, as well as stopping sims aging and even bringing dead sims back to life.
If you want to master the art of resetting the clock on your perks or making yourself sparkle then potions also have that covered. There are 15 in total and it’s well worth learning them all.
1 Spellcasting Is More In-Depth Than You May Realise
As you play a spellcaster you’ll quickly realize that the life state is very engaging and in-depth. Curses are a constant threat, spells can go wrong and power can kill you. For every great spell, there is a downside and magic very much comes with a price.
Becoming a spellcaster is easy but mastering the art will take time and practice. Luckily there are several ways to do it and avenues to explore. This, combined with the little secrets in the magical realm itself, combine for an engaging and in-depth magical journey.
