The Vampires game pack for The Sims 4 was the first time in the game that a new occult life state was given its own stand-alone DLC. Despite this, it has held up well over time. The vampire life state is well rounded, exceptionally planned, and enjoyable to play. It’s also perfectly complemented by the new world, create-a-sim, and build and buy items.
Separating an occult lifestate into its own pack means that while it may have a more limited appeal, for those who enjoy supernatural gameplay it is often considered a must-have. Here’s everything that you need to know about the features and focus of The Sims 4: Vampires before you buy it.
10 There’s A New World Called Forgotten Hollow
This game pack comes with a new world called Forgotten Hollow. While it’s a small area, it is very much a dark and creepy town that fits perfectly with the old gothic victorian town vibe.
There’s a huge mansion, home to the town’s vampire patriarch, as well as an empty starter home, an abode for a vampire sibling duo, and a dwelling that contains a vampire hunter, who has taken precautions to deter unwanted visitors.
9 There’s A New Vampire Life State
The main focus of this pack is the new vampire life state. As with other occults in the game, vampires can be made by transforming regular sims through in-game actions or designed directly in create-a-sim. Sims can also inherit vampire traits from their supernatural parents.
Vampires have two forms, regular appearance and dark form. The dark form is automatically triggered when a vampire uses any of their occult powers.
8 You Can Be A Good Or Bad Vampire
The game will allow you to choose the type of vampire life you want to lead. Sims can choose to be a power-hungry evil vampire that hunts down sims in search of plasma to feed on or they can take another path.
You’ll find trees around the new area that contain plasma fruit. This can be made into drinks or food and used as an alternative to draining plasma from unsuspecting sims. Good vampires can also purchase plasma packs. This route isn’t easy though as plasma fruit doesn’t quench thirst at the same rate as plasma does.
7 Vampires Gain Powers Over Time
As your vampire uses their powers they will begin to gain experience. There’s a regeneration system that involves using meditation to replenish vampire energy, which is then spent by using powers.
There are five ranks to achieve and vampires can choose different abilities and bonuses as they progress up the ranks. Once at the top, points continue to be earnt, allowing players to broaden their vampire’s powers.
6 Weaknesses Will Have Tangible Effects
As powers grow they are not consequence-free. Players are forced to take on weaknesses in order to offset the great advantages the occult life state enjoys.
One of the best things about these weaknesses is that they do have tangible effects so you’ll need to choose carefully depending on your storyline and playstyle. If you choose the wrong one it can affect a vampire’s relationships and interactions very negatively.
5 The Pack Has A New WooHoo Spot And A New Death
Vampires can replenish vampiric energy by resting in a coffin. For those with a vampire partner, the coffins can also be used for WooHoo. A pair of vampires with bat form can also WooHoo while in this form.
In terms of the new death, the enemy of vampires is sunlight. If a vampire stays in the sunlight too long they will burn up. There are some skills that help prolong a vampire’s time in the sun but generally, they need to stick to the covered and shaded areas when venturing outside during the day.
4 You Can Achieve New Aspirations And Develop A New Skill
There are new vampire-themed aspirations that help you on a path of exploration. They guide you through exploring building your power, converting other sims into vampires, or living your most wholesome plasma fruit-based life.
For those looking to increase their skills, you can also learn to play the pipe organ to give your home those true creepy mansion vibes.
3 The Build And Buy Items Are Perfect For Gothic Victorian Homes
The Vampires build and buy catalog is more extensive than expected. It contains all the essentials to build a run-down Victorian mansion. You’ll find windows, doors flooring, tiles, and wallpaper. These are complemented by creepy statues, candle chandeliers, cobwebs, and watermarks as well as a range of dead-looking foliage for that truly abandoned look.
You’ll also find furniture staples including a kitchen, fireplace, curtains, chairs, tables, a bed, and a bathroom. Everything a vampire needs is contained in this pack and you could easily create a creepy vampire home just with these items.
2 Create A Sim Allows You To Unleash Your Vintage Vampire
The clothing choice is more limited but the items match well together and help players create some stereotypical vampire looks. There’s a huge focus on the vampire dark form with scars, teeth, skin accents, and makeup forming a huge part of the selection.
In terms of clothing expect dark suits, black boots, long black dresses, and signature jewelry and accessory pieces. The look is mainly gothic with a slight steampunk edge.
1 Vampires Can Affect Other Gameplay
One main thing to be aware of in this pack is that vampires can affect your other gameplay. Vlad in particular is fond of creeping around at night and with Vampires installed he can pay a random visit to other worlds.
Luckily, this problem has been reduced by the Eco Lifestyle pre-expansion patch which allows players to disallow vampires through a new no trespassing option accessible by clicking a lot’s front door. Just make sure to keep an eye on the setting as, at the time of writing, travel and exiting into and out of menus can reset it.
