It’s been an exciting spring and summer for The Sims 4 in terms of new career options, from the free update that added Freelancer to the career pool, to the Island Living expansion which opened up a bunch of opportunities for adults. With part time jobs now available not only for teens, it’s easier than ever to tailor our Sims’ lives and career paths without turning towards mods. If you’re still unsure which path would best suit your Sim’s lifestyle, don’t worry, we’ve got your back with a list of all the new jobs included in the latest expansion, from worst to best.
9 Fast Food Employee
It probably goes without saying, but there are no riches to be had in the world of fast food. Your Sim will be working from 5 PM to 9 PM, with an hourly wage that never goes above 20 simoleons an hour, which really isn’t a lot. Sure, progressing on this career track will be a piece of cake, with nothing other to level up than your cooking, a skill which most likely any adult Sim will have anyway. If you’re absolutely desperate for money, why not? But don’t put your hopes here!
8 Barista
Much like in fast food, working as a coffee shop barista isn’t going to skyrocket your Sim into a world of riches. What’s nice here, however, is that your salary will increase significantly over time, going from 13 an hour to eventually 25 an hour as you reach the third level of the career by leveling your mixology skill and mastering all variations of an excellent coffee.
Your Sim will need to be a serious early bird to be successful in this career, since work begins at the crack of dawn at 5 AM.
7 Retail Employee
If working in the evening isn’t a problem for you and your Sim has a passion for all things fashion, retail might be the perfect option for you. Your hourly salary will be twice as much as in fast food, and increase exponentially as you work your way up. The only skill you need to focus on is your charisma, which should be easy enough to work on with a bathroom mirror or socializing with your friends. A decent option for someone looking for a bit of cash and perhaps dreams of starting their own retail business one day.
6 Manual Laborer
In terms of hours and salary, this is without a doubt the best part-time career your Sim can join as of now, provided they’re prepared to develop their gardening skill. Sure, lifting heavy things and working under the blistering sun building houses or renovating bridges might not be for everyone, but if your Sim isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty, they’re in for a lot of money. On the plus side, you’ll only be working for a few days per week, but the 45 simoleons an hour starting pay is tempting, especially since work only lasts from 7 AM to 12 PM and you have the rest of the day off.
5 Babysitter
Looking for a simple part-time job that leaves most of your week free to do whatever your heart desires? Babysitter is the ideal career for those who want a relatively relaxed job, but are still looking to get a decent pay.
You’ll be earning twice as much as those in fast food, however your hours will be until midnight during the weekend. Of course, an interest in all things care taking and children is a huge plus, and the skill you should focus most on is charisma to quickly earn your promotions.
4 Fisherman
Included in the new expansion, your Sim can now turn their passion for fishing into a part-time career that can earn them some serious coin. The pay is similar to that of a manual laborer, only the skill you’ll be developing is obviously your fishing. With each level you’ll also unlock some nifty trophies for your progress, including decor items that may or may not be relevant to your career choice and mountable above your fireplace. The bonus is that you get to choose between working early in the morning or late at night.
3 Diver
Are the waves calling out to your Sim? Consider putting them on the diver part-time career track. Not only will they have an excuse to hit the beach every day for a swim, they’ll also be unlocking some cool career rewards with each level.
The salary is quite significant and identical to that of the fisherman, the difference being that you’ll need to purchase some gear and items to proceed to the next level of your career and you’ll work in the evening. There’s no particular skill at play here, only the right equipment to get you that promotion.
2 Lifeguard
Despite the undeniable impact you’ll have on people’s lives by saving them, the lifeguard career is the least paid of the three Island Living part-time jobs. Not to worry, however, you can pick your shifts between morning and evening, and as you progress you’ll unlock a cool new outfit as well as a fancy oversized beach towel. To get your promotion you’ll need to work on your fitness skill and as a bonus you get to work on a nice tan as you survey the beaches for people in need of help. It’s a win-win for us.
1 Conservationist
Unlike all the other jobs listed here, the conservationist career is a full time job, meaning you can’t take another job on the side. Your Sim will be fully preoccupied with the state of Sulani’s environment, collecting samples and trash from the beaches until they’re offered the chance to choose between the two branches: Marine Biologist or Environmental Manager. For purely more money, the latter is what we recommend, but if your Sims thoroughly fascinated by ocean life, the former might be more suitable for their ambitions. Although the starting pay of 14 simoleons an hour can seem insignificant, once your specialize you’ll be making at least over a hundred per an hour and unlocking some special personality traits at the end of each branch.
