The Sims 4: Journey To Batuu is the latest game pack and it combines The Sims 4 with another huge franchise, Star Wars. The two come together in a unique collaboration that combines Sims gameplay and mechanics with the characters, lore, and locations from Galaxy’s Edge.

The pack’s theme has drawn criticism but there is a lot to love in its content. Not only is Batuu beautiful but you can go on missions, make friends with some weird and wonderful aliens and take the Millenium Falcon for a spin. Here we explore the things we love about the Star Wars-themed game pack as well as the things we wish had been included.

10 Love: The Star Wars Inspired Clothing

The create a sim options are rustic looking and perfectly match the aesthetic of Batuu. There is a range of one-piece and two-piece options for all ages, from toddler to elder, as well as some new boots, hairstyles, and hats. If you want faction-specific items these can be unlocked through missions for the corresponding faction.

The clothes complement each other well and the muted palette is perfect for the vibe of the planet. Sims can wear these outfits anywhere but on Batuu you’ll only see sims dressed in clothing from the Star Wars universe.

9 Wanted: More Iconic Characters

The pack includes some appearances from Star Wars characters but they are few and far between and many aren’t well known. Kylo Ren and Rey are the headliners but the others are more obscure, especially for those who’ve only seen the movies.

Vi Moradi was created for Delilah S. Dawson’s Phasma novel, while Hondo Ohnaka is from Cartoon Network’s The Clone Wars. While Chewbacca appears in the narrative, he doesn’t have a sim form, like the vendors of the stores in Batuu.

8 Love: Batuu’s Aesthetic

The world of Batuu is beautiful. There are so many details spread across the three different locations that it takes a while to spot them all. Fans of the franchise will also recognize a few easter eggs along the way.

Each district has a unique feel, while still being cohesive. There’s also a new WooHoo spot in the Inn you go to in Black Spire Outpost to “freshen up.” Every district also has a well-detailed ship.

7 Wanted: More Interiors

Batuu may be full of rich detail on the outside but sadly many of the interiors are simply rabbit holes. Each district has just one building that’s accessible to sims and editable by players, using the free build cheat.

In Black Spire Outpost it’s Oga’s Cantina, which is also slightly hindered by the exterior facade, as is the First Order supply building. The Resistance Camp is the most flexible, being mainly underground and larger than the others. There’s also an outdoor camp area you can edit. Just bear in mind that these areas are linked to missions so deleting items such as the holo tables will cause you some issues.

6 Love: Droids And Lightsabers

Lightsabers and droids are both staples of the Star Wars franchise and you can get both on Batuu. Droids are purchased for Galactic Credits and scrap, while lightsabers can be earned through missions or purchased with Credits.

Both items can be freely used in Batuu and can also be brought back to regular Sims worlds. Just remember to bring extra lightsabers if you want to duel with a friend.

5 Wanted: More Options For Duels

Duels look fantastic but we’d love to see actual options, similar to how when you play Sabacc you can choose how you play and if you cheat. We also wanted to see a new death but sadly that’s not to be.

If you could choose a stance before you began that affected the outcome it would add a little luck. Maybe a rock, paper, scissors style system, where both luck and choices determine the outcome.

4 Love: Missions

There are three sets of missions in total. The storylines for The First Order and The Resistance tell the same narrative from opposing points of view but the missions do differ. The Scoundrel missions tell a different story.

The tasks are more varied than expected, although obviously there is some repetition. You need to hack into control panels, avoid guards, collect and deliver items, and make some decisions that can affect the outcome of the mission. You’ll also need to get information from the right people through one of several means.

3 Wanted: To Flirt With Kylo Ren And Rey

When you play the game you’ll soon notice that the main named characters from the franchise have limited options. This means that you cannot flirt with Rey or Kylo Ren as a default. Presumably, this is due to the way Disney and Lucasfilm wanted the characters to be represented.

However, simmers will find a way if there is one, and a little cheating means you can actually flirt, kiss, and WooHoo with Kylo Ren and Rey, although there are still some limitations. You can even add them to your household!

2 Love: Range of Build and Buy Items

The build and buy items are more numerous and more flexible than it may first appear. They are heavily Star Wars themed but the design is generic enough to lend itself to other types of builds.

They work particularly well with the Strangerville objects and can be used to create steampunk and industrial designs. The debug and live edit objects cheats also add a huge range of clutter to your options.

1 Wanted: Better Alien Options

There is a range of new alien skins available but they are far more limited than we expected. Most of the alien create a sim items are simply cosmetic sets comprising of hats, gloves, and leggings. As such the alien “skins” use all three of these slots. The only exception is the Mirialans, whose green skin is a makeup detail.

You’ll also notice that half of the races have very distinctly patterned skin that does not extend past the neckline or onto the torso, meaning clothing options are very limited for these races.
