Electronic Arts Inc. has announced a new first-of-its-kind reality competition based on its popular franchise, The Sims. The show, The Sims Spark’d, brings together Sims players from all over the globe and sees them compete in challenges that will showcase their skills, creativity, and storytelling abilities using The Sims 4.
The show has been produced in partnership with Turner Sports’ esports and gaming brand ELEAGUE as well as Buzzfeed Multiplayer. It comprises four episodes that will be shown on TBS starting on Friday, July 17th at 11 p.m. ET/PT and continuing for three more weeks. Encore telecasts will be shown at 8 a.m. on Saturdays. Spark’d will also be shown on Buzzfeed Multiplayer. These episodes will be available from 8 a.m each Monday, after the TBS premiere.
The announcement gives us a brief overview describing The Sims Spark’d as “redefining reality competition by bringing creativity, storytelling, and the community together in an entertaining new way. The contestants will be given creative challenges to build the most unique characters, worlds and stories, all told through the latest highly successful game in the franchise, The Sims 4.”
The Sims team also released a trailer that shows the twelve contestants, who comprise some notable names in the Sims community, competing to impress the judges and get their hands on a $100,000 prize.
The community has reacted positively to the news so far, with many excited to spot some of their favorite YouTubers in the lineup. The familiar faces are Dee Sims, Doctor Ashley, Dr Gluon, Littlesiha, Plumbella, Simlicy, Simproved, Spring Sims, StephOSims, The English Simmer, Urban Sims, and Xmiramira.
The show is hosted by former American Idol finalist and long time Sims player Rayvon Owen.
