9 Single-Rigged: Highly Situational, Long Windup

Slow club-style weapons with one of the best air-launch moves in the game, Single-Rigged are highly impractical compared to other weapon types in the game. The long windup of their attacks makes them unwieldy and tricky to use in almost every situation.

These weapons split most of their animations into two hits, the second of which can be very difficult to land (as you’ll end up knocking back enemies before you get to finish your combo). Neverthless, it’s important not to count out Single-Rigged tools of destruction; their raw damage potential is still very potent.

8 Heavy-Duty: Highest Damage, Slowest Moveset

Heavy-Duty is the slowest and hardest-hitting weapon class in the game. Players opting for these powerful armaments will hit ridiculously hard, but will also require some patience. The slow moveset is one of the main reasons why Heavy-Duty weapons are unpopular among a lot of players.

Aiming for specific body parts requires the most precise timing, and players rarely get the chance to hit every combo attack. However, Heavy-Duty weapons can deal monstrous damage no matter what, as long as users are willing to learn their ins and outs so as to maximize those deadly hits.

7 Twin-Rigged: Absurd Speed, Short Reach

The fastest weapon type in the game, Twin-Rigged offer one of the most versatile combos of all the options in the game. Due to their speed, however, they lack in reach and stagger damage. Just like most dual-wield weapon options in RPGs, Twin-Rigged weapons require a hit-and-run sort of playstyle.

Against multiple mobs and other group combat situations, players might take damage more often due to the lack of stagger, but the backward flip attack gives you that edge to escape and reset mid-fight. For those looking for speed over anything else, this is the best choice in The Surge 2.

6 One-Handed: Well Balanced, Average Stats

A very solid pick all around, One-Handed is a definite contender for the most balanced weapon class in the game. RPG veterans will instantly be familiar with the combat capabilities of this classic all-rounder: it has average speed, average reach, and average damage.

The trade-off, of course, is that One Handed weapons don’t necessarily excel in one particular area. Overall, they don’t do anything particularly well, or terribly. This class is a solid choice for any situation in the game.Especially for relative genre newcomers looking for an effective and accessible weapon to use, the One-Handed weapon type is perfect for those who don’t want to get into the nitty-gritty of switching equipment for specific situations.

5 Staff: Widest Reach, High Stamina Usage

One of the flashiest and most stylish weapon class options in The Surge 2, Staffs are super entertaining against mobs of enemies. Their intricate moves cover a wide range around and in front of your character, but the combos arguably require the most stamina usage in the game.

Unfortunately, style points aren’t much of a combat advantage, which limits the potential of Staffs (especially when compared to their cousin the Spears). However, players can take advantage of a Staff’s variety of slam attacks with the many elemental bonus sets in the game. Dedicated players will find a lot to like with this class of weapon.

4 Double-Duty: Flexible Combos, 2-in-1 Special

A fan-favorite, the Double-Duty class are essentially two weapons in one, similar to the brilliant Trick Weapons found in Bloodborne. Regular attacks are slow and hard-hitting, but (in a mechanic unique to Double-Duty armaments), players can morph their attacks to a much faster, dual-wielding combo variant.

Double Duty weapons offer perhaps the most intricate movesets in the entire game, but the weapons’ flashy combos are very stamina-hungry. Keep that vital stat in mind, as it’s really the only thing holding the Double-Duty class back from becoming the best weapons in the game.

3 Punching Gloves: Best DPS, Endless Combos

Relatively straightforward and easy to use, Punching Gloves (combined with the right build and gear) can have the best damage output in the game. Comparable to Twin-Rigged weapons, but slower, Punching Gloves deliver more hits and allow players to stagger enemies with specific combos.

The dodge attack is reliable and quick enough to get players out of a sticky situation. The Punching Gloves’ cross combos are excellent all around, and they even offer endless chained hits that you can use to bash enemies until you run out of stamina.

2 Hammer: Easy Moveset, High Damage

Hammers will demolish everything that gets in your path. What these weapons lack in speed, they make up for in their incredibly powerful strikes. Their cross combos will devastate all mob types and bosses, but, unfortunately, there are no endless chains for Hammers.

This is okay, however, as Hammers’ heavy but somewhat fast moveset is considered an advantage. It gives them better accuracy and timing, especially against some of the formidable and fantastic boss encounters this genre is renowned for. With a Hammer in your hand, you don’t need an awful lot of panache. All you have to do is press buttons, and your foes will fall like bowling pins.

1 Spear: Long Reach, Best Accuracy

Excellent in both 1-on-1 and multi-mobs fights, Spears are arguably the best weapons in the game for beginners and veterans alike. Spears boast multiple far-reaching jabs and spinning attacks, which are incredibly solid and fun to use once players learn the combos. Their short animations and unmatched accuracy give you an incredible advantage when aiming for specific body parts.

It’s rare in RPGs for players to deem the Spear to be the best weapon type, especially in Souls-like titles. Nevertheless, with such great utility, it makes sense that this weapon type would be considered the best by many players.
