At long last, Konami’s TurboGrafx-16 Mini will be available to own in the US. Coming packed with 57 total games, the micro-console will be available own starting May 22, 2020. The device was originally scheduled to release in March of this year before the coronavirus pandemic changed plans, forcing Konami to delay the unit.

Review copies went out to certain publications in April, so you can already get a good idea if this console is worth it to you. From everything posted online, it seems Konami really hit this one out of the park. The interface not only copies what Nintendo has done with the NES and SNES Classic devices, but it even contains some nifty secrets that unlock other games.

If you’re wondering why this news may sound redundant, the Japanese version released back in March. Going by the name of PC-Engine Mini (what the device was originally called), units in Japan were not directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Europe, on the other hand, still does not have a date for its own regional variant, the CoreGrafx Mini.

It has created this weird scenario where importers could have already gotten their hands on the device if they wanted. I wouldn’t advise that with the current global situation, but it is still an option. It seems unlikely that the TurboGrafx-16 Mini will sell out, but you could always use the Japanese version as a back-up.

Still, it’s nice that Konami was able to square away the situation with manufacturing these devices. With each day bringing new challenges for us to overcome, it will be nice to have this cute little slice of nostalgia available to play with little fuss. I don’t have any particular history with Konami’s console device, but I won’t deny that the games on offer make for a tantalizing proposition.
