Pokémon moves can vary from super strong to near useless. Many of these moves have no effect or a straight variable effect due to outside circumstances like health amount, they have been left off the list for straight attack moves for the sake of simplicity.
Some Pokémon type got the benefit of having stronger weak moves that could still be use-able throughout a playthrough, other types did not get so lucky in move set choice where many of their moves are near useless. Here are all the weakest attack moves of each type.
17 Steel: Metal Claw 50
Steel type has the officially most powerful weakest attack of all Pokémon. Metal claw can do solid damage even being weak, though it can easily be replaced by Iron Tail, it can be a good diversity move for Pokémon who aren’t metal types but you need the coverage.
16 Dragon: Twister 40
Twister is basically dragon tackle dealing with the same damage. dragon actually has one of the strongest weak moves of all the types with Twister. 40 damage on this list is nothing to sneeze at for dragon-type damage.
15 Water: Bubble 40
Bubble’s attack is probably more threatening than it sounds, this is commonly the first water type move some starters learn before getting replaced with bigger and better moves. It was only trusty he the Pokémon was weak but it is essentially water type tackle where it really doesn’t do enough to win the day in a quick amount of time.
14 Fairy: Fairy Wind 40
Fairy, dragon’s counter type, had gotten lucky as the new kid on the block of Pokémon typings by getting an equally strong attack. However, the disbenefit of this move is that it has a chance to miss compared to its other fairy type weak move competitor, Disarming Voice, which always hits.
13 Flying: Peck 35
This is an old familiar move, you probably taught your Pidgey this before it grew big enough to learn magic powers or super moves like Sky Attack where it had a power of 200 attack. Either way, it all started when it learned peck, like some regular bird.
12 Ghost: Lick 30
Ghost has it rough when it comes to a move set. Most ghost types are mixed with another type to make up for bad damage ghost moves so that Pokémon can still have stab damage. Lick being one of the weakest entries just shows how tough Ghost has had it over the years because it was one of the few actual ghost moves during the beginning.
11 Grass: Bullet Seed 25+
Bullet seed does have the chance to only go once, and if it did it would not help you. It’s sad to think a poor Bulbasaur standing there awkwardly as it gets attacked to a knockout because it was incapable of bullet seeding more than once.
10 Ice: Icicle Spear 25+
This is essentially an Ice-type bullet seed, which wasn’t really necessary because where you’d actually need this move is a pretty rare situation. You’d be better off shooting off an ice beam as it will be more accurate.
9 Bug: Pin Missile 25+
Pin Missile is a bug type move that can hit once to 5 times depending on chance, and oh boy if the dice roll is only once. Many dice roll moves are weaker than tackle making damage a hard thing to come by and with the many resistances that are against bug types you’re screwed if you only get one.
8 Dark: Power Trip 20+
Power Trip can depend on stat upgrades on its attack power, which is kinda useless because all Pokémon attack moves depend on stat rises to boost power.
Its gimmick only works if all your stats are boosted and taking them into account which takes way too much setup and your Pokémon would already be knocked out by then. Meaning you’re stuck with a 20 power attack. If you can manage to Complete the Dragon Balls of power stats, in this case, all the way, it can have 860 attack.
7 Psychic: Stored Power 20+
Stored power is another stat dependant move that really has no effect until you use Calm mind about 5 times, but if you’re using a special attacking Pokémon, it’s better to just use psychic and wipe the floor with them, probably literally. It is like power Trip though where if you can manage it the number is 860 attack, plan ahead folks.
6 Fighting: Arm Thrust 15+
Arm thrust is a move that can screw someone over if it only goes once. its 15 damage is practically useless in most cases, and worse if you need it to do more hits. It is one of the weakest of all dice roll moves and one of the weakest overall if it only does one hit.
5 Ground: Mud Slap 20
Mud slap is one of the weakest moves on this list, tieing nuzzle in its incapability. Its only side effect is occasionally lowering accuracy, which makes it nothing more than an attacking sand attack, but more like a bitty slap.
4 Electric: Nuzzle 20
The only benefit of this is the chance of paralysis, but otherwise, it is one of the weakest moves on this list meant only for baby Pokémon. While many on this list are dice roll, this move only does 20 attack no matter the way you go about it.
3 Poison: Poison Sting 15
Poison sting is one of the weakest moves available, only rivaled by will o wisp, but at least this will hit for the most part in comparison. The only added benefit you would get with this move is occasional poison status on the opponent, otherwise, you’d be using this move hundreds of times before you knocked out an enemy.
2 Fire: Will O Wisp 15
Will O wisp doesn’t guarantee burn, though it isn’t a direct damaging move it does hit in the very same turn after it is down causing damage. Due to the Pokémon formula, it’s 80% accuracy is actually much less, leading it to be a move that rarely hits and doesn’t do enough damage to make it worth it in the end. Bur being one of the weakest damaging status affliction doesn’t help any.
1 Normal: Constrict 10
This is the weakest attacking move in Pokémon. It basically is a one-hit move that does the weakest damage in Pokémon, it was so useless that it was banned as a move in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
