The Lodge of Sorceresses was a very powerful and important group of female mages who were behind a lot of pivotal plot points in The Witcher franchise. Whether you’ve only read the books or played the games, you have some familiarity with the Lodge.

The group rose out of the ashes of the Brotherhood of Sorcerers and was composed of notable sorceresses like Philippa Eilhart, Triss Merigold, Keira Metz, Sheala de Tancarville, Margarita Laux-Antille, Fringilla Vigo, and more. Many fans love the Lodge despite their often antagonistic presence, as the characters are fascinating and complex. We thought we would make a list of some fun facts you may not know about the organization and its members.

10 Multiple Women In The Lodge Have Had Romantic Relations With Geralt

Geralt has a thing for sorceresses, that cannot be denied. He has had romantic relations with several women in the Lodge. The most obvious is, of course, Triss Merigold. Yennefer is not technically a member, but she did work with them from time to time – usually not of her own choosing.

Also in The Witcher games, you can romance Keira Metz, another member of the Lodge. In the books, Geralt and Fringilla Vigo also a tryst after she seduces him. At one point he can also hook up with Sabrina Glevissig.

9 Assire var Anahid Had A Cat Companion Named Merlin

Assire var Anahid is another lesser-known member of the Lodge, at least to game fans. She does have a prevalent role in the novels, but only one scene in the game, and sadly she dies in it.

However, one interesting tidbit is that Assire had a pet cat named Merlin after the legendary warlock. Cats are important animals in The Witcher realm as they are one of the few creatures who are known to be able to harness magical energy. Cats and magic have a very long history and The Witcher includes that in its lore.

8 Sheala De Tancarville Is The One Who Named The Organization

Sheala de Tancarville was invited to join the secret sisterhood of sorceresses by Philippa Eilhart. She didn’t want to at first, as Sheala valued her scholarly research work and had little interest in political dealings, but she was eventually persuaded.

She became one of the founding members and it was Sheala who came up with the name, “The Lodge,” during the book Baptism of Fire.

7 Margarita Laux-Antille Was The Most Morally Sound Member

Margarita Laux-Antille is often considered one of the most “noble” members of the Lodge. While she could certainly be devious when need be, her motivations for being in the Lodge were much different than most. She was a rector at the Aretuza Academy and cared deeply for her students.

The main reason she wanted to be involved was to pave a better future for them so they would never have to suffer from Nilfgaard’s rule. She was certainly the most morally sound of the Lodge and cared little for scheming and politics.

6 Not All Of The Sorceresses Appeared In The Games

Francesca Findabair is one of the lesser-known members of the Lodge and the only sorceress to never appear in the games. One theory for that is because she was widely considered to be one of the most powerful mages of all time and considered to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

It may have been difficult to find a suitable design for her and if her powers were up to snuff, she could have taken care of a lot of Geralt’s problems. She was also an elven queen and one of the Lodge’s founding members.

5 Yennefer Was Not Loyal To The Lodge

Despite being a powerful sorceress, Yennefer is one of the few female mages in the franchise who had no real interest in the Lodge. Unfortunately for her, she became a target thanks to her connection to Ciri.

The Lodge wanted Ciri in their control due to her abilities and elven blood. It was Philippa’s goal to have her married off and use her to advance their agenda. As such, Yennefer was essentially kidnapped and forcefully used as a way to get to Ciri, but when Yen needed help to protect Ciri, the Lodge wasn’t of much help.

4 The Lodge Falls Apart In The Future

According to Lady of the Lake, the Lodge of Sorceresses ceases to exist in the future. It’s not entirely clear what led to their downfall but many of the women were tortured, killed, and/or imprisoned. Several of them had their portraits burned.

They met a fate somewhat similar to the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. However, in some cases, this ending led to a few of the female mages becoming Saints and icons, such as Philippa Eilhart. People began cult-like worship of them in death.

3 Men Were Not Allowed For A Reason

The Lodge of Sorceresses was first created after the Brotherhood of Sorcerers fell apart during the infamous Thanedd coup. The reason it was created is that the de facto leader, Philippa Eilhart, and her disciples, believed that men were too incompetent to govern any area of magic.

They used the incident at Thanedd Island as evidence to support that. The sisterhood created a very powerful group of female mages who became ruthless in their own right. Most sorceresses in the franchise have at least some connection to the Lodge.

2 Ida Emean Aep Sivney Is An Elven Sage

Ida Emean aep Sivney is the member of the Lodge with the least amount of information and the smallest role in the franchise out of all the Lodge members. She doesn’t have much of a role in either the books or the games, only appearing briefly in The Witcher 3 when Yennefer reaches out to her for help.

Ida is an elven sage who comes from the Blue Mountains and a member of the Aen Saevherne race. Her game look was supposedly inspired by actress Agata Trzebuchowska in the 2013 Polish drama, Ida.

1 Sabrina Glevissig Became A Saint In Death

Like we mentioned before, some of the sorceresses were seen as saints after the Lodge fell. Despite being one of the most vain and cruel sorceresses in the Lodge, Sabrina appears to have become one.

If you play the Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3, you might eventually find a notice board that makes a reference to Sabrina. Someone advertising relics says they have a piece of the kindling from “Saint Sabrina’s” pyre. She isn’t in the game so it’s kind of a fun easter egg.
