CD Projekt RED was on to something when they decided to axe Yennefer completely and then replace her with Triss as Geralt’s primary romantic interest in the first Witcher game. Now they have a fanbase perpetually at war with its other half regarding which sorceress to live happily ever after with for Geralt.

Truth be told, they did take some liberties with Triss and made her a more tolerable and more respectable character. Now she has become someone who’s a worthy competitor against Yennefer when it comes to Geralt’s love. Of course, much like Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship, Triss and Geralt’s also have some major bumps in the road– enough for their bond to be meme-worthy. So here are 10 memes, to sum up their odd relationship.

10 TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STO–

Geralt is a hundred-year-old man who has seen and survived several wars, saved countless people, and killed hordes of monsters. Yet when it comes to decisions, the hardest he has always faced is ‘Yennefer or Triss?’

Too bad trying to get both will result in having neither so it’s up to in-game modders and some memers to make a break-even point. That’s a weird amalgam of the two sorceresses, even weirder than the Yennefer-esque Triss back the first Witcher game.

9 WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

Geralt being devoid of parental love makest him a basket case of issues, the most prominent of which is commitment. So when Triss “stole” Geralt from Yennefer, she got the whole package, not just the good parts of it.

The result was Geralt being the most unfaithful gigolo ever in the first two Witcher games and even in the third one. Although, it seems there never was a serious talk about the commitment between her and Triss so it could be that she’s fine with polyamory.

8 HOW IT WAS IN THE BOOKS

A lot of hardcore Witcher fans consider the video game canon as nothing more than fanfiction in large part due to the Triss romance. It seems most book fans got conditioned with Geralt belonging to Yennefer and no one else.

Sadly, this wasn’t the case in the second game as the players had no choice but to see through the deplorable romance between the two. Thankfully, this meme reminds everyone how it was in the books– with Triss practically throwing herself at Geralt with no regard for self-respect.

7 A YENNEFER-APPROVED GIFT

The number of times Triss has been friend-zoned or rejected by Geralt in the books is rather high– high enough to make her look pathetic in her repeated and indecent attempts to seduce Geralt. Geralt only did fall for her once, when she used magic to charm him.

After that, Geralt still put Triss back in her place and told her he wanted nothing more than friendship. That didn’t deter Triss, it seems. So giving her a Christmas gift that rubs in what Geralt wants canonically from Triss ought to drive the point home… maybe.

6 WHAT ELSE ARE HANDCUFFS FOR?

Of course, despite the book canon destroying any chance Triss had, one can’t deny the beauty that CD Projekt RED did with the game’s Geralt and Triss. The two did share something dear and they had something that Yennefer doesn’t give Geralt: mutual respect.

That and also some bedroom tricks that don’t involve unicorns but more conventional foreplay methods. Geralt fondly remembers what he and Triss used shackles for– even as friends. Too bad that part wasn’t shown in the first two games. Petition for a belated DLC anyone?

5 GOTTA MARK THAT TERRITORY… WELL, FORMER TERRITORY

Yennefer, being one of the most powerful sorceresses in the Lodge and possibly second only to Philippa Eilhart, pretty much has a free pass to bully around her contemporaries. So, like in her usual political advisor tenure, she regularly pulls off power moves against anyone.

That includes kissing Geralt in front of Triss under the pretense of her being grateful because he brought Ciri back home safely. Or maybe that really was the case but nevertheless, she made sure Triss saw it all. Thankfully for her, Triss was a good sport.

4 CAN YOU BLAME GERALT?

Remove the text in this meme and it’s still a funny meme on its own given the context and Geralt’s penchant to womanize. Still, Geralt getting distracted and chasing side quests instead of the main quest is a perfect allegory for him dropping Yennefer for Triss.

However, Geralt only did half the work and was only half to blame. The other half goes to Triss who betrayed Yennefer for a slice of albino beefcake. It was premeditated and goes way back, several books back.

3 NO WONDER HALF THE PLAYER BASE CHOSE HER

It’s easy to see what the game developers wanted with Triss. She’s practically a romantic opposite of Yennefer. Whereas Yennefer is cold and mature, Triss is warm and youthful. She’s also sweet, kind, and awfully patient with Geralt.

That meme right there above is just one of the few things she’d do for Geralt. Other stuff include suicide missions with him, planning for their future, and betraying her Yennefer for Geralt. Good luck getting Yennefer to do any of those.

2 YES… TO A WORLD FULL OF HAPPINESS AND SATISFACTION

Just as Geralt and Triss had shackles to represent the peak of their romantic “adventure,” Geralt and Yennefer had a unicorn. It was something only the two of them knew about– not even Vesemir had a clue.

Certainly not Triss for that matter. That’s why this wishful conversation in the meme above would have been an interesting part of the game. Too bad it may be out of character for Triss to ask a trick question like that.

1 MISSION FAILED, WE’LL GET ‘EM NEXT TIME

Here’s where Triss’ inexperience and shortsightedness really shows. Her whole “plan” of being in a relationship with Geralt relies on him not coming out of his amnesia phase. If only Triss knew how cliched that was for protagonists, she could have thought ahead.

The sad part is that the developers never really showed Geralt and Triss’ actual serious talk about this. Triss could have told her about Ciri and Yennefer at any point but chose not to for her advantage. The best excuse she probably told Geralt was that she loved him… too much.
