No other couple in fantasy literature is more toxic and more dysfunctional than Geralt and Yennefer. Both of them have betrayed, cheated on, and abandoned each other over their decades-old relationship but somehow always get back together and the cycle repeats itself anew.

Yet, despite both of them being nearly a century old, they haven’t wisened up much regarding each other. For them, it’s romantic torture, but for the fans– it’s a blast. Their relationship has been the subject of fanfictions, jokes, and of course, memes that poke fun at how they closely resemble a typical on-again, off-again couples. Here are 10 of those memes.

10 HENPECKING INTENSIFIES

Geralt, next to Vesemir, is the most respected witcher in the School of the Wolf. His colleagues might not admit it but they look up to Geralt except in the romantic aspect. That’s because in other witchers’ eyes, Geralt is the favorite pet dog of the sorceresses.

Almost every interaction between Geralt and Yennefer usually ends up in her overpowering or making Geralt bend to her will. In fact, Yennefer even extends this habit to some witchers, much to their disdain.

9 SUNKEN TREASURE > SORCERESSES

Despite how insane Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship can get, the latter still respects and has shown true love for the former. With the kind of magical power Yennefer has, she can easily torture Geralt and squeeze out a confession from him.

Yet she doesn’t, which goes to show just how much she values Geralt in her life to actually “hurt” him like an enemy. In fact, Yennefer seems to have handled the fact that Geralt slept with Triss while she was out. Or maybe she just got used to all the cheating.

8 OH JUST THROW HIM DOWN A LAKE OR SOMETHING

One would think that Yennefer could have been more severe with her punishment for Geralt for what he did while she was recuperating. However, Geralt still got off easily– considering Yennefer could have squished her like an ant if she wanted.

She did come close to doing this to Geralt in one dialogue option in Kaer Morhen where Geralt used amnesia as an excuse. Turns out she could send Geralt anywhere she wanted, including atop the mouth of a volcano. She probably would have done that long ago if not for Ciri.

7 WELL, HE’S NOT WRONG

Some memes create themselves and without the need for an external push from the fanbase. Such is the case with this romantically wholesome banter between Geralt and Yennefer in The Witcher 3.

Oddly enough, it implied that Geralt didn’t care much for whoever’s being honored at the funeral, which was only King Bran, one of the people who made him a VIP in Skellige. In Geralt’s defense, he hasn’t seen Yennefer in a really long time.

6 DESTINY CAN WAIT

The way Geralt ran away from Ciri in some of the earliest novels of The Witcher books painted him in a completely different picture and a far cry from who he was in The Witcher 3. Funny thing is, he didn’t even want Ciri back then.

However, Yennefer did see it as an opportunity for both her and Geralt to have what they couldn’t naturally: a family. It’s a good thing Ciri had no hard feelings for Geralt not wanting her initially.

5 THEY GROW UP SO FAST

One would think that Geralt and Yennefer having some sort of surrogate daughter would have fixed their troubled relationship– well, it did, a bit. However, for the most part, they’re still the bickering couple they always have been.

Well, this was in regards to how they were in The Witcher 3. Not much has changed in how Yennefer treated Geralt and how Geralt accepted it but snuck behind her back for validation from other sorceresses. Oh well, at least they’re generally a happy family.

4 “SORRY, FORCE OF HABIT”

Regardless of whether Yennefer rekindled her relationship with Geralt or not in The Witcher 3, she still kisses Geralt out of impulse after he finally brought Ciri back to Kaer Morhen. It’s one of the most defining moments of their relationship.

Even more daring is how Yennefer did it in front of Triss who was hugging Ciri while watching Geralt. It’s almost like a power move from Yennefer– being petty yet excusable at the same time. No wonder she’s a valued political advisor.

3 AS IF GERALT CAN REALLY SAY THAT TO HER

It’s no secret that Yennefer is one of the most antisocial characters in The Witcher saga. She’s even more utilitarian and cruel than Geralt. Often, she does anything necessary or dirty to achieve her goal, sometimes even putting Geralt in danger.

That’s why plenty of her ideas involve using, betraying, manipulating, or murdering someone or all of those plus necromancy in order to get results. The meme above is just wishful thinking as Geralt can never really object her without making her angry.

2 AND THEN CIRI COMES ALONG, THE END

One of the best moments in Geralt’s and Yennefer’s relationship happens when Geralt follows her around like a stray puppy trying to defend its mother or a hopeless romantic. Oh yes, it’s mommy issues at play on Geralt’s part but it’s nonetheless an endearing sight.

Geralt can quickly turn from a stoic butcher to a chivalrous white knight when it comes to Yennefer. Even something as small as a cheeky remark to Yennefer is enough to get Geralt riled up– only he has to permission to emotionally hurt Yennefer.

1 SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT

Given how aberrant their relationship is and how often the show, the games, and the books show them fighting in the most important events, one can wonder how they decide to spend their normal couple moments and how turbulent it can get.

Do little things like what to do for date night or who gets to do most of the work during foreplay become just as toxic as their other routines? One thing’s for sure, either of them loves the challenge and the chase that the other brings to the table.
