One of the many creatures that players will encounter during The Witcher 3 is called a Nightwraith. These will show up periodically throughout the game which is why it is important to know a little bit about them first. It takes a skilled player to finish off one of these and it is best if they know what tools they need to use.

Luckily, this list lays out the facts that every player should know before facing off with a Nightwraith. It will allow a player to be fully informed before rushing into a fight they are unprepared to win. Keep reading to learn a few facts about Nightwraiths from The Witcher 3!

10 It’s A Type Of Specter

A Nightwrait is classified as a Specter alongside other things like Noonwraiths, Banshees, Barghests, and Wraiths. It basically means that they are tethered to a person or place due to some unfinished business that has to be completed before they can move on. This is also the first thing that will help players understand what they need to do to defeat this creature.

9 They Are Found In Velen

Velen, also known as No Man’s Land, is located in Temeria on the map. This is where Nightwraiths are found as the lurk in this rural area waiting for their next victim. The area has been ravaged by war and is now a swampy mess where people of all walks of life can be found lurking in the shadows.

8 They Appear After Dark

Geralt will need to meditate until day turns to night if he wants any chance of finding a Nightwraith on his travels. The moon should be high in the sky once the hunt begins as this is what provides them with power. They can sometimes be found during the day if one searches hard enough, but generally, it is just easier to wait until the time is right.

7 It’s Added To The Beastiary After Reading ‘Of Sweat And Blood’

The book called Of Sweat and Blood can be acquired by completing a quest called On Death’s Bed. It will require a player to obtain the Swallow Potion and give it to a girl named Lena who has been attacked by a Griffin.

Once the potion is delivered he will be rewarded with this book which will add Nightwraiths, Noonwraiths, and Plague Maidens to a player’s bestiary. This will offer tremendous insight into how these creatures can be defeated which will give a player a leg up in the fight.

6 Yrden And Moon Dust Must Be Used

A Nightwraith is basically a ghost, which means they have no physical body for Geralt to stick his sword into. This is where Yrden and Moon Dust bombs come in handy as they can trap this creature in a corporeal form. It is best to have both of these at the ready in order to end the fight sooner than later against these types of beasts.

5 Travelers And Peasants Are Most At Risk

The two groups of people who most often are killed by Nightwraiths are travelers and peasants. Travelers often head into dangerous parts of the countryside where these creatures lie and end up dead at their hands. It is also rumored that Nightwraiths will sneak into peasant huts and kill them while they sleep which makes everyone susceptible to their murderous ways.

4 They Resemble A Frail Woman

Nightwraiths are often underestimated due to their decrepit looks that remind players of an old woman. They are often described as pale and withered which to most would mean they are harmless.

The tattered clothing they wear doesn’t do onlookers any favors either as they don’t realize the truth until it is too late. They should always be treated as a threat as they are out for blood and it doesn’t matter who it is that crosses their path.

3 Specter Oil And Silver Swords Are Necessary

A combination of Specter Oil and a Silver Sword is deadly to a Nightwraith as this will inflict the most damage. Specter Oil can be made using four parts Arenaria and one part bear fat, but there are enhanced and superior versions that players can make as well. When this is added to a sword it will grant a player 10% attack power which can make a huge difference in a fight against any Specter.

2 They Can Blind Enemies With Moonlight

The moon is what gives a Nightwraith its power, so it only makes sense that this connection would also be used in battle. These creatures will blind their opponents with moonlight which can disorient them for a short period of time. It is usually used to bring out the mirror images that allow her to regenerate health, so this is something to keep in mind during a fight.

1 They Drop Useful Loot

Once a player has killed a Nightwraith it will drop some useful loot that a player should make sure they gather. It includes things like a Nightwraith Mutagen, Specter Dust, Nightwraith Hair, Infused Dust, Dark Essence, and Lunar Shards. These can be very useful in creating specialty potions, armor, or even weapons to aid Geralt in his next fight.
