What makes Geralt one of the most interesting video game characters ever is his wealth of experience. Being nearly a century old by the time The Witcher III: Wild Hunt happens helps tremendously with who he is. Yet, the game developers never fail to add more growth and adventures to Geralt.

Just when he and the players thought they’d seen all The Witcher 3 has to offer, out came the DLCs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Both give Geralt some self-contained journeys and intimate moments. As a result, there are some things that players will know about Geralt only if they played the DLCs, here are 10 of those.

10 HE WORE THE MANTICORE GEAR IN THE FIRST GAME

It’s a fairly small tidbit of trivia about Geralt but the Manticore witcher gear that Blood and Wine added was actually his armor during the first Witcher game. It had a simple padded leather jacket with a plain white loose tunic underneath.

The medium armor set was apparently a nod to Geralt’s very first armor and his most faithful appearance to the books. Only players of the first game who played the DLC will be able to appreciate such a homage.

9 HE KEEPS LOSING AERONDIGHT

Another returning piece of witcher gear Geralt has in his arsenal would be the legendary Aerondight silver sword. The fabled Arthurian Lady of the Lake gave it to Geralt as a reward back in the first game. However, it was notably absent in the vanilla third game.

The Lady of the Lake gave it again to Geralt in Blood and Wine, took note of his losing it and advised the witcher to take better care of the sword. Of course, that wouldn’t stop Geralt and the players from wagering Aerondight in a trading card game.

8 HE HAS A POWERFUL VAMPIRE FRIEND

Apart from the Lady of the Lake, one other powerful mythical friend Geralt has would be a high vampire named Regis. Regis was also present in the books and even helped Geralt defeat the powerful sorcerer Vilgefortz though it cost Regis his physical form.

Regardless, Blood and Wine supplanted Regis’ supposed fate in the books and returned him whole again. This essentially brought back possibly Geralt’s most powerful ally next to Ciri as Regis can practically wipe out entire human kingdoms at his whim.

One surprising background a lot of players never knew about Geralt until Blood and Wine was that he’s a legitimate knight. Geralt was allowed to join a knight’s tournament under the Rivian banner and title.

That essentially puts Geralt in somewhat of a nobleman status given how he’s a knight of Rivia. Queen Meve of Rivia bestowed this title upon him in the books after his valor during the Battle for the Bridge on the Yaruga.

6 MORE FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

Yet another queen in another kingdom who would be impressed by Geralt’s feats would be Anna Henrietta of Toussaint. She herself invited Geralt to take care of a string of murders caused by a monster.

Anna Henrietta personally cherry-picked the famed Geralt of Rivia for this task and ended up fixing more problems than he initially signed up for. That makes Geralt a VIP in Toussaint in addition to being a VIP Skellige and Rivia.

5 HE’S BECOMES A LEGITIMATE LANDLORD

For Geralt’s contributions to Toussaint and for exceeding Anna Henrietta’s expectations, Geralt became an authorized land and estate owner in Toussaint. He was awarded the vacated Corvo Bianco vineyard.

That makes Geralt a landlord– a small duke or noble with his own pocket of power in Toussaint. Thankfully, he’s not really into politics nor is he ambitious, most other people will likely try to grab more.

4 HE HAS ANOTHER REDHEAD LOVER

Triss wouldn’t be the only redhead Geralt tossed salads with. Anyone who played through the first Witcher game will know that the developers also gave Geralt Shani, a fiery human medic who didn’t have that big of a relationship with Geralt in the books.

Still, Shani proved to be a refreshing new face and romantic interest for Geralt in Hearts of Stone; her character was improved quite a lot compared to her version in the first game. Oddly enough, this side tryst with Shani is allowed regardless of whether Geralt is serious with Yennefer or Triss.

3 HE’S THE MOST MUTATED WITCHER

During his escapades and side questing in Toussaint, Geralt comes across the writings and the abode of a man who wanted to clear his son’s witcher mutations. The father ended up enhancing them, which was great for Geralt because apparently his game version loves being a witcher, unlike his book version.

In any case, it opened a new world of mutational enhancements for Geralt which he also furthered in his manor. This essentially made Geralt the most mutated and most advanced witcher in his school or possibly in the whole world. That is unless he shared his mutagens with his colleagues.

2 HE’S A WINE CONNOISSEUR

Back in the main game of The Witcher 3 and even in Hearts of Stone, Geralt didn’t appear to care much for alcohol; to him and the players, they’re most supplies to brewing potions. That’s why it’s surprising to hear Geralt be somewhat of a wine expert.

He demonstrated his good taste in wine and his knowledge of Toussaint’s main products during the main quest of Blood and Wine. Even Queen Anna Henrietta was impressed by Geralt’s sophisticated palate for alcohol.

1 HE MAKES A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

Most witchers typically just fight the monsters they encounter, sentient or otherwise and then there’s Geralt. He goes as far as to make a deal with the most powerful of them all: Gaunter O’Dimm. He’s the closest thing The Witcher 3 has to a devil.

Granted, Geralt was in a tight spot and was only tricked by Gaunter. This put Geralt at one of his most vulnerable dispositions since The Witcher 2 which isn’t a bad thing considering Hearts of Stone introduced the best Witcher villain ever in the form of Gaunter O’Dimm.
