When one talks about some of the greatest video games ever made, it’s pretty much a given that The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt would be an integral component of this discussion. CD Projekt Red truly knocked it out of the park with their magnum opus, incorporating everything they’d learned in the development of the first two Witcher games to create something incredible in every sense of the word.
Pretty much everything present in this game is refined to a T. From the excellent combat to the rich story, there’s no element of this title that isn’t sheer brilliance personified.
One such aspect of the series that is truly magnificent is the sheer cast of characters present in the story, with the mysterious Ciri finally making her much-awaited presence in this title.
However, it seems that the mystery surrounding this character still wasn’t addressed properly, as seen in the following ten questions about this character that CD Projekt Red failed to answer in The Witcher 3.
10 Does She Swing Both Ways?
One of the most ambiguous about Ciri is in regards to her sexuality. While her possible tryst with Skjall might make people think that she’s straight, certain events in the books and games alike might make fans think otherwise.
In the books, Ciri ends up sleeping with a girl names Mistle. This relationship could either be a genuine indication of Ciri’s alignment or just her accepting love from wherever she may find it.
The fact that you can make Ciri choose a dialogue option stating that she likes girls in the games certainly doesn’t answer this question either.
9 What’s Up With Her Fanservicey Clothing And Looks?
Most forms of entertainment have a bad habit of overly sexualizing their characters, and The Witcher 3 is no exception to this rule, unfortunately enough.
For starters, the scar on Ciri’s face that is supposed to leave her as a disfigured mess ends up accentuating her looks even further.
Along with this, the somewhat revealing clothes that Ciri wears doesn’t help her characterization much either.
8 Why Didn’t She Get Any Equipment In Kaer Morhen?
For a fortress that prides combat and survival over anything else, it’s somewhat questionable as to why Ciri never equipped herself with anything during her stay in this place.
Aside from Ciri herself, nobody in Kaer Morhen even thinks about equipping her with swords, potions, blade oils, poisons, bows, arrows, or anything else along the same lines.
Is it any wonder as to why she was woefully under-equipped for the most part while on the run from the Wild Hunt?
7 What’s Her Actual Birth Year?
This is a point of contention that most fans have rabidly debated on the internet — what is Ciri’s actual birth year?
The book states her birth year to be 1253, while the games have it pegged down as 1251. Why this discrepancy arose is anyone’s guess, although a valid argument could be to make Ciri somewhat older in the games to prevent any controversies from arising.
6 Why Did No One In Kaer Morhen Remember Ciri?
From the very first game, Geralt suffers from a bout of amnesia that makes him forget almost everything and everyone important to him.
However, the rest of his friends and comrades didn’t suffer the same ordeal, so why didn’t they try and track Ciri down when they knew she was missing and on the run?
5 How Has Ciri Been Surviving All This Time?
For someone who was on the run from a very early age, it’s commendable to see Ciri hold her own for so long… although, to be perfectly honest, it’s somewhat perplexing as well.
After all, the people who were pursuing her were none other than the Wild Hunt, so it’s not like evading them would’ve been an easy task.
So, either Ciri is a natural when it comes to escaping threats… or the developers never really took this point into consideration.
4 How Was She Able To Take Care Of The White Frost?
The ending of The Wild Hunt is definitely one of the most satisfying endings in video gaming history, incorporating every decision that gamers have made over the course of the trilogy to make for a riveting conclusion.
However, there’s one question mark looming over The Witcher 3’s ending — namely, the manner in which Ciri was able to take care of the White Frost for good.
It’s an ambiguous plot point that should’ve been addressed properly.
3 Why Does Her Being The Empress Prevent Her From Ever Interacting With Geralt?
In one of the endings of The Witcher 3, Ciri agrees to become the Empress Of Nilfgaard and take over the hefty responsibility of governing this massive kingdom.
However, for some reason, Ciri treats this responsibility as the final nail in the coffin when it comes to interacting with Geralt and the rest of her friends, which is completely unnecessary.
Sure, it’s true that Ciri will be more occupied with her important role, but it certainly doesn’t mean that she won’t be able to interact with her companions at all.
It seems that CD Projekt Red just wanted to make this ending seem emotional for the sake of it.
2 Doesn’t Ciri Becoming Famous As A Witcher Put Geralt’s Life In Danger?
Another ending of The Witcher 3 sees Geralt lie to Emhyr van Emreis by telling him that Ciri died, before present the latter with a silver sword of her own in a tavern. It’s the most heartwarming ending in The Wild Hunt… but also poses its fair share of problems regardless.
At the end of Blood And Wine, we meet up with Ciri again as she gives an update on her life. It’s clear that her exploits as a Witcher are already gaining prominence across the Continent, which means that Emhyr would soon hear the same and figure out that Geralt was lying to him.
Wouldn’t this development put Geralt’s life in significant peril, as a result?
1 How Did Ciri Learn To Control The Powers Of The Elder Blood?
The Elder Blood is a powerful aspect of Ciri’s inheritance that allows her to control powers well beyond anyone’s understanding. However, this also entails that no one would be able to educate Ciri on how she could control these powers.
So, it’s somewhat weird to see that Ciri is able to slowly master most of the powers given to her without so much as a second thought.
Surely a power so hard to control — as seen when she loses all control after the death of Vesemir — would require some guidance?
