Most gamers know and have played through at least the Witcher 2 and 3. By now we all know and love the mutant we play as known as Geralt of Rivia. We have lived through important moments in his life and made tough decisions. With 173 hours of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, most of us feel pretty comfortable about knowing who Geralt is.

Except despite those 173 hours, there are still quite a few unanswered questions we have about Geralt. Here is a list of some of those burning questions we have all been wondering, or haven’t thought about yet.

10 Who Is Geralt’s Dad?

We have a very brief understanding that Geralt remembers his mother and that she gave him away, but what about his father? Was he ever in Geralt’s life, if not for a fleeting moment?

Was Geralt’s father too busy to be home, was he a drunkard, did he abandon him and his mother? Geralt is no doubt the manliest of men, perhaps mostly due to being a Witcher, but we wonder who exactly his father was and what he did. Did he get any of his genes from his father or is it mostly his mother he gets everything from?

9 Where Is Geralt’s Mum?

As previously mentioned, Geralt’s mother gave him away which lead him to be picked up by a Witcher and taken to Witcher school. But that is about all we know of her. Was she just a normal farmer, or housewife?

Something drove her to give up her only child (we assume…) and we have a feeling it wasn’t because she was drunk and heartless. What was it that gave her no choice but to abandon Geralt? Where is she now? Maybe she was in danger. Maybe she still is.

8 How Old Is He?

Ah, the age-old question about Geralt’s age. We know that Witcher’s stop aging physically at a certain point and seemingly never die, but how old really is Geralt? He physically looks around 35-50 years old, but he could very well be around…. 90? 100?

What if Geralt knows a lot of past events that happened because he has been around for way longer than people realize or care to ask? If there’s one thing we do know, he still has a somewhat jovial mood and can still move his body like he’s 20 so perhaps the mystery doesn’t matter all that much.

7 Does He Actually Have Feelings For Triss?

Yes, we know Triss is a heartthrob and the quirky girlfriend everyone wishes they could have, but did or does Geralt actually have feelings for her? We know when they met Geralt had lost his memory and therefore forgot about Yennefer, but who says Geralt wasn’t just looking for a fling?

Even more, maybe Geralt thought he had feelings for her at the time, but those were mistified feelings he was trying to remember which were for Yennefer. Throughout The Witcher 3, Triss tries to flirt with Geralt and gets flustered around him. Even if you agree to her wishes, doesn’t he seem more enticed by intimate favors than by being in love?

6 What Would His Natural Hair Color Be?

So Geralt’s hair color changed during his intense Witcher training. Understandable. But, most Witcher’s if not all still have their natural hair color. What was Geralt’s?

I can’t imagine him as a redhead or golden blond. Perhaps he was a dirty blond or a dark brown? Though his eyebrows themselves never turned white, they don’t reveal a clear answer either. For example, even people with red hair can have black eyebrows. Will we ever know the truth? What did human-Geralt look like?

5 Question 5: Does He Feel Emotions?

Almost every time Geralt mentions other people to common folk, he’s shot with the sentence “Everyone knows Witcher’s don’t feel emotions.” And to be honest, watching other Witcher’s, you might agree. But from his white locks to his Child Surprise, Geralt was always special and different from the others anyway.

Playing as Geralt throughout the games we are left with many mysterious that we subconsciously coincide with all Witchers, but what if all the stories about Witcher’s are true, just not true for Geralt? We can’t prove that he feels sadness, anxiety, and happiness, but we can prove he feels love if not because of Ciri above all else.

4 What Is He Thinking When He Grunts?

The great White Wolf is famous for his grunts and moaning replies to people. Whether it be a farmer explaining a floating cow he saw, a noble ranting about his precious opinions on society, or Yennefer telling him what he should be doing, Geralt has a grunt for that. But what is he really thinking when he does it?

Are there specific grunts? Are they all the same? Did Roach teach him this? Perhaps we should analyze the tones and pauses to properly determine this.

3 Question 3: What’s The Story With Roach?

We understand that Geralt names every horse he owns Roach, but who is Roach? Or rather, where did he come up with such a name for his noble steeds? How long does he keep one single Roach? Where do the other Roach’s go when they retire?

It might be jumping the gun to say, but I think the fact that Geralt even names his horses says a lot about the man he is. Think about it, would a Nilfgaardian guard name his horse? It might show that there’s a little heart inside Geralt after all. He even whispers to the thing, for cryin’ out loud. What secrets does Roach know!?

2 Question 2: Does He Shave?

Hear me out. In the game, every time we see him without a top on he couldn’t be more hairless. In fact, it seems as though the only hair on his body is on his head and face.

Does he shave his body for aesthetic purposes? Or maybe the hair causes unneeded chaffing under his armor… Maybe for some odd reason, he can’t grow body hair. Another add-on to becoming a Witcher? Is it due to his many scars? Perhaps we will never know.

1 Question 1: What Is He Actually Ever Thinking?

I mean really, what is Geralt’s thought process? Even though we play as him throughout the video game franchise and get to chose what he does and what he says… it’s all still somehow neutral in a way.

We decide what he says and how to react, but the way it comes out (most of the time) is as if it wouldn’t matter to him either way and he’s just having fun with fate. It does seem like he knows good from bad and who deserves punishment, but it also seems like he’s just meandering around and doesn’t have strong opinions unless it pertains to Yennefer and Ciri.
