One of the most beautiful, dangerous, and sprawled out places in all of The Witcher 3 is the notoriously brutal Skellige Isles. The ruling clans of Skellige have their territory, and the rest of the archipelago is inhabited by monsters and other wilderness horrors.

There are a few important locations to keep in mind as you travel through Skellige, because of either their usefulness or importance in the story. Here are some of the most important locales to keep in mind.

10 Kaer Muire

Home to Clan Drummond, Kaer Muire is a large castle fortress south of Arinbjorn on the main island, Ard Skellig. Here, the leader of Clan Drummond, Madman Lugos, can be found. Lugos is associated with several quests, most importantly the questline to elect Skellige’s new ruler.

In Kaer Muire, there is also a journeyman blacksmith and journeyman armorer. Journeyman is the rank right below Master, meaning these are the best smiths and armorers one can find on the Skellige isles.

9 Spikeroog

As a smaller island in the archipelago, Spikeroog is a bit offshore from Ard Skellig, to the west. Most of the island is ruled by Clan Brokvar. There are a few important spots on the island of Spikeroog. One of them is Hov, which is home to a large arena used in the “Fists of Fury” questline.

The village of Svorlag on Spikeroog is also home to the quest “Possession,” the completion of which will be necessary to elect Cerys the queen of Skellige, should you choose her.

8 Herbalists

In order to craft all the necessary bombs and potions for the best chance at completing the game, Geralt might need to find herbalists that are in possession of rare and useful alchemical ingredients.

Luckily, Skellige is home to a few herbalists. There’s one at the ruined inn near Fyresdal, one in the village of Kaer Trolde, one in the Druids’ Camp near Gedyneith, and one by the name of Jonna in Rannvaig. You can also rescue an herbalist from bandits, and he will then set up shop on Kvalheim Isle.

7 Yennefer’s Room/The New Port Inn

Right on the shore of the Kaer Trolde harbor is the New Port, an inn and tavern that is a central meeting spot for Yennefer and Geralt. The sorceress will have rented a room here, which is a vital hub for the player.

Several quests are associated with the inn itself, while a stash can be found in Yennefer’s room. Jonas, the innkeeper here, will also give Geralt some tips for the quest “The Lord of Undvik,” which leads to Hjalmar being elected king of Skellige.

6 Entrance to Kaer Trolde

Kaer Trolde is a breathtaking location, with a beautiful castle nestled into the side of a mountain between two peaks, with a large valley running underneath. It’s the main location for the Skellige questline, being the current location of the ruler of Skellige before his death. It is ruled by Clan an Craite, the family to which both Cerys and Hjalmar belong.

It’s sometimes frustrating trying to get up to the citadel, so it’s important to keep the lower entrance in mind. To walk up, head behind the row of shops to find the staircase and incline. You can also unlock the Bridge to Kaer Trolde marker to make your life much easier.

5 Blacksmiths

Throughout your adventure, you might find yourself looking for blacksmiths. They sell the equipment necessary to upgrade your weapons, repair them, and can even provide you with new, more powerful swords when you level up.

Skellige is home to a few different blacksmiths of varying skill. The aforementioned Kaer Muire blacksmith will be the best in the Skellige Isles. But there’s another journeyman smith at the Kaer Trolde citadel. Find amateur smiths in Fayrlund, Arinbjorn, Harviken, Larvik, Svorlag, at the Urialla Harbor, and in Fyresdal.

4 Armorers

A powerful offense is nothing without a good defense, though. That’s why armorers are just as important as blacksmiths. They’ll sell new armor, items to upgrade them, and help you repair your set.

You can find journeyman armorers in Kaer Muire, as mentioned, or in the Kaer Trolde citadel. Amateur armorers can be found in Larvik as well as the Urialla Harbor. In Skellige, where there’s an armorer, there’s often a smith nearby, but the opposite isn’t always true. Use this knowledge to save yourself a trip.

3 Temple of Freya

A very important main questline will involve heading to the island of Hindarsfjall, and more specifically the village of Larvik. Here, a large temple and garden dedicated to the goddess Freya can be found. It’s here that Geralt and the sorceress will use necromancy to revive the corpse of poor old Skjall, who tried to help Ciri.

This area and the gardens of Freya within are also the location of the quests “In Wolf’s Clothing” and “Taken as a Lass.” This is an important spot to keep track of.

2 Undvik

A larger island in the Skellige archipelago is Undvik, which is ruled by Clan Tordarroch. The island has been somewhat abandoned due to the presence of a large ice giant. This ice giant is the focal point of Hjalmar’s quest to prove himself the best ruler of Skellige.

Other quests are also related to Undvik, including “Veni Vidi Vigo,” “Shortcut,” and a few different quests associated with the finale of the game. Find this island east of Ard Skellig across the waters.

1 Gedyneith

There is a sacred oak tree on Ard Skellig that is an extremely important location for the residents of the Skellige Isles named Gedyneith. The royal coronation of whichever candidate you assist will take place here, as will other important events for the tree’s worshippers, like weddings and rituals. This area is also home to the druids of Skellige, some of whom are important characters in side quests and the main story.

Ermion is perhaps the most important character found in this area, serving as a royal adviser and crucial part of Skellige’s questline.
