The Witcher 3 is full of morally grey choices and themes but overall, Geralt is usually a good dude. Even though witchers are supposed to be neutral in world affairs, Geralt is always getting himself mixed up in world-ending plots and destinies.

That being said, it is possible to make Geralt more villainous than he’s supposed to be. Admittedly, it’s tough to make Geralt go completely evil, but those evil choices you can make along the way can have some major consequences on the story. So, here are some tips to maximize Geralt’s villainy.

10 Break Yennefer’s Heart

If making Geralt as evil as possible is your goal, a quick and non-violent way is to break Yennefer’s heart. Even though Geralt can have a different love interest in the games, Yennefer is usually considered the canon choice.

During the “Last Wish” quest, Geralt and Yen break the wish that tied them together after which Yen asks Geralt if their love was real. Rejecting her and watching her heartbroken reaction is definitely a step in the right direction when it comes to being evil.

9 Let People Get Killed By Monsters

A witcher’s duty is to protect the general masses from the cavalcade of deadly monsters populating the world of The Witcher 3, but if being evil is what you’re going for, you can just ignore that duty and let the monsters go wild on the townsfolk.

This isn’t a method that has major consequences on the story but it’s a great way to increase the villainous immersion.

8 Don’t Send Keira To Kaer Morhen

Over the course of much of the game, Geralt meets a whole cast of characters that he can send to Kaer Morhen to help with a battle later on. The sorceress Keira Metz is one of those characters.

After completing her side-quest where she develops a cure for the plague, players can either send her to Kaer Morhen, or kill her to prevent the information from getting out. You can also let her go to Radovid with the cure but she’ll later be found murdered by Radovid. Both of the latter options are quite evil.

7 Ignore Skellige’s Succession

A major part of the story while on the Skellige Isles has to do with finding the next king (or queen) of the archipelago kingdom. Geralt can help decide who becomes the next ruler, but the evil choice would be to simply ignore the questline altogether.

Ignoring Skellige’s succession means that neither Cerys an Craite nor her brother Hjalmar take the throne, and it instead goes to the previous king’s son, Svanrige Tuirseach, who becomes a cruel, totalitarian ruler.

6 Cause Syanna’s Death

A character met in the Blood and Wine DLC, Syanna is the Duchess Anna Henrietta’s sister, and she’s the person responsible for the series of murders made in Toussaint in an attempt to steal the throne.

Syanna may not be the noblest of characters, but causing her death at the hands of Dettlaff, the vampire she manipulated to commit murders, is still the evil choice because it’s missing out on the chance to have Syanna redeemed.

5 Betray Roche

This choice is especially evil if you’ve also played Witcher 2 and followed the Roche path, but near the end of the game, you’ll need to side with either Dijkstra or Roche and kill the other.

Strictly speaking, neither choice here is a greater evil than the other, and it’s definitely morally grey in nature. But the history between Geralt and Roche in the previous games makes betraying Roche feel especially evil.

4 Abandon The Mages

Witcher 3 sees the mages of the world being hunted down and killed without mercy, causing the surviving mages to go into hiding. During the quest “Now or Never,” Triss asks for Geralt’s help to smuggle some mages out of Novigrad.

Usually, Geralt would help. But if you want to be evil, you can just simply abandon the mages. It’s a seemingly small choice but it’s one that has major consequences on who wins the war.

3 Let Radovid Win The War

Speaking of who wins the war, abandoning the mages will lead to Radovid winning the war to rule over Velen and Novigrad. Of all the possible options for who wins the war, having Radovid rule is the evilest option, even more so than letting Nilfgaard rule.

Radovid possesses a thirst for power, a taste for violence, and certifiable insanity, a volatile mixture to say the least. If he’s allowed to rule, his brutal witch hunts only grow worse.

2 Accept Payment From Emhyr

While the Nilfgaardian emperor Emhyr var Emreis is Ciri’s biological father, Geralt is more of a father to Ciri than Emhyr could ever hope to be. So imagine the look of betrayal from Ciri when Geralt accepts payment from Emhyr for bringing Ciri to him.

Bringing Ciri to Emhyr isn’t in itself evil, but accepting the money is, and doing so is a factor that leads to the next entry.

1 Cause Ciri’s Death

The evilest thing you could make Geralt do is to let Ciri die when she faces the White Frost. It’s one thing to cause her death inadvertently, but it’s another thing entirely to purposefully make the choices that lead to Ciri’s death. That’s true evil.

Ciri’s fate ultimately comes down to the series of choices Geralt makes at key points during Ciri’s story. If Geralt is supportive of her, Ciri will survive the White Frost, but if you have Geralt stifle her, she’s sure to fall to the White Frost.
