Aside from being a commercial success, CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has become one of the company’s most popular games ever created, so much so that some may say it helped contribute to the company’s growth and help it become the most valuable gaming company in Europe. Now, the game is being given away to all PC players for free - with a small catch.

Currently running until June 23, the giveaway allows console owners to claim a free copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt over at the GOG website and essentially allows them to re-experience the game on PC. In order to claim the PC copy, players must own the game either on the PS4 or Xbox One (Nintendo Switch owners are exempt from the promotional offer) and use the GOG Galaxy client to connect to the respective console and follow the provided instructions. Furthermore, upon completing the process correctly, all progress and achievements should be able to show up over on the PC version, meaning that players do not necessarily have to start over.

One important thing to note is that the GOG Galaxy client will be able to see what kind of edition console players own. Players who own the Game of the Year edition will be able to get the equivalent over on PC, while those who own the Standard Edition will get the same game without any of the DLCs and expansions available with the Game of the Year edition. Even those who do own the Standard Edition and have purchased the season pass separately for it will have to re-purchase the DLCs for the PC version after downloading the game.

For players who do own a console version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, considering the switch over to PC can prove to be beneficial for multiple reasons. Aside from performing better on PC in regards to graphics, textures, frame rate, and other visuals, the PC version of the game also supports mods. For those who may be interested in spicing up their gameplay with a variety of mods, they can check out The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Nexus Mods page.
