The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has many different useful oils that can be used to more quickly defeat different types of enemies that Geralt will encounter throughout the game. These oils will deal 50% more damage to enemies while using the most potent forms of the oil, and it is usually worth keeping a few of each oil in the player’s inventory at all times, to be prepared for any type of situation or enemy type.

However, there are some oils that are more useful than others because of how difficult it is to defeat enemies and how common monsters appear throughout the game. Some oils can’t match up to how useful others are throughout The Witcher 3; however, they all have a use for certain combat situations.

10 Useful - Superior Beast Oil

To craft Superior Beast Oil, the player will need 1 Alchemy Paste, 1 Enhanced Beast Oil, 1 Cockatrice Stomach, 1 Celandine, 1 Puffball, 1 Bison Grass, and 1 Rubedo.

Beast Oil is very important in The Witcher 3 because it allows the player to more easily defeat enemies such as wolves and bears, which are commonly present throughout the wilderness of the game.

9 Never Use - Vampire Oil

To craft Vampire Oil, the player will need 2 Dog Tallow and 4 Ducal Water. Vampire Oil is rarely used in The Witcher 3 unless the player is playing through Blood and Wine; however, at this point in the game, the player will usually have powerful weapons and upgrades, which will mean that oil is less important.

Vampire Oil can be useful in the right situations; however, it is not very important in the base game since there are not very many vampires to be found, and they are usually weak compared to other types of monsters.

8 Useful - Superior Hanged Man’s Venom

To craft Superior Hanged Man’s Venom, the player will need 1 Bloodmoss, 1 Devourer’s Blood, 1 Alchemy Paste, 1 Enhanced Hanged Man’s Venom, 1 Fool’s Parsley Leaves, 1 Quebrith, and 1 Green Mold.

Hanged Man’s Venom is one of the best oils in the game because it allows for a 50% damage boost against human enemies in its strongest version. Humans are one of the most common enemies to be found in The Witcher 3, and players will want to have this oil with them at all times if they want to swiftly defeat humans, especially on the Death March difficulty.

7 Never Use - Draconid Oil

To craft Draconid Oil, the player will need 4 Puffball and 1 Dog Tallow. Dragonids are rarely found in The Witcher 3, and although they are one of the most powerful types of monsters in the game, they aren’t present enough throughout the main questline to be one of the most useful oils.

As such, a lot of players completely forget to craft Draconid Oil, especially when playing on lower difficulties since it is so easy to defeat these enemies.

6 Useful - Superior Hybrid Oil

To craft Superior Hybrid Oil, the player will need 1 Alchemy Paste, 1 Enhanced Hybrid Oil, 1 Erynia Eye, 1 Ginatia Petals, 1 Albedo, 1 Bison Grass, and 1 White Myrtle Petals.

Hybrid Oil is mostly important because of how powerful werewolves are in The Witcher 3. Although werewolves aren’t a common sight in the game, they can be one of the toughest types of bosses to fight since they can regenerate health and also have powerful attacks that deal a lot of damage to the player.

5 Never Use - Relict Oil

To craft Relict Oil, the player will need 5 Mistletoe and 5 Dog Tallow. Relict enemies are very rare throughout The Witcher 3, and they include creatures such as Dopplers and Spriggans.

A lot of players rarely encounter these enemies and aren’t prepared with this special type of oil since most players consider it to be a waste of ingredients because they almost never encounter these mostly humanoid enemies.

4 Useful - Superior Specter Oil

To craft Superior Specter Oil, the player will need 1 Essence of Wraith, 1 enhanced Specter Oil, 1 Alchemy Paste, 1 Longrube, 1 Ergot Seeds, 1 Mistletoe, and 1 Rebis.

Specters are a very interesting enemy type since they resemble ghosts such as wraiths. These enemies are somewhat common throughout the game as bosses since there are so many different quests that involve Geralt hunting down a wraith. As such, players will usually keep their inventory stocked with Specter oil in case they run into one of these ghostly entities.

3 Never Use - Ogroid Oil

To craft Ogroid Oil, the player will need 1 Bear Fat and 4 Arenaria. Enemies such as trolls and cyclops are considered to be Ogroid monsters, and they are some of the toughest creatures in the entire game.

Although monsters classified as Ogroids are powerful, they are rare to find, especially while completing quests. It is useful to keep a few Ogroid Oils in the player’s inventory if possible; however, they will only prove useful very rarely.

2 Useful - Superior Necrophage Oil

To craft Superior Necrophage Oil, the player will need 5 Alchemy Paste, 1 Devourer’s Blood, 1 Enhanced Necrophage Oil, 1 Pringrape, 1 Beggartick Blossoms, 1 Arenaria, 1 Hydragenum.

Drowners and Foglets are among the most common creatures that Geralt will encounter throughout The Witcher 3, and they are both classified as Necrophages. As such, the player should craft a few Necrophage oils before entering into any combat situation since these monsters pop up so often and are usually difficult to fight because they appear in large groups.

1 Never Use - Insectoid Oil

To craft Insectoid Oil, the player will need 4 Ranogrin and 1 Dog Tallow. Insectoids are creepy monsters, and most players hate encountering them because they are usually difficult to fight and deal massive amounts of damage, which is surprising considering that they are giant bugs.

However, Insectoids are not common throughout the base game, and although they are somewhat present throughout the Bloodand WineDLC, they aren’t common enough to consider Insectoid Oil to be one of the most useful oils in the game.
