The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’s downloadable content (DLC) ought to be rewarded with the best storytelling ever in expansions or DLCs. Both Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone each contain an ocean’s worth of content, both wide and deep– something most developers fail to achieve these days with their expansions, even those with bigger budgets.

As it stands, the Witcher expansions even contain characters and storylines subjectively more interesting than the main game’s quest. Just how interesting? Let’s just say that each main character in all of The Witcher 3 DLCs can fit in the varied spectrum of Dungeons and Dragons’ 9-point moral alignment system. Here’s where each of them fared, proof of how well they shape up and contribute to the plot of each DLC.

9 LAWFUL GOOD - SHANI

As far as longtime friends go, Shani is a treasure. Not only is she an accomplished and sophisticated doctor, but she also has a heart of gold. Shani is the kind of person who will patch up either side of the battlefield’s casualties because it’s her code.

She sides with living things in that regard. Shani never fails to uphold her Hippocratic Oath, making her a force of true good. In that regard, Shani is one of the best contenders for the Lawful Good alignment, she upholds the ideal better than any knight.

8 NEUTRAL GOOD - ANNA HENRIETTA

Neutral Good is practically Lawful Good but with exceptions such as family or individual reasons. It just so happens that the Henriettas are the most dysfunctional family in The Witcher 3 DLCs.

Anna Henrietta might be a just and fair ruler but the way she can easily forgive her evil sister, Silvia Anna, is evidence enough of her willingness to bend the rules. Any other objective person would have executed Sylvia Anna, bu Anna Henrietta is family, so there.

7 CHAOTIC GOOD - VLODOMIR VON EVEREC

Vlodomir Von Everec from Hearts of Stone might have done some truly evil deeds in the past such as hanging out with bandits and scum, but his death changed him for the better. As a ghost in possession of Geralt’s body, Volodomir surprisingly does a lot of good things for the witcher.

This is anything from respecting Geralt to helping people around and even rekindling the romance with Shani. The way Vlodomir does it is a bit unconventional and brash but that only earns him the Chaotic Good alignment.

6 LAWFUL NEUTRAL - GERALT

As far as video game protagonists go, Geralt is the best representation of neutrality. That is despite having no ability to truly commit to evil and chaos in the hands of players. In fact, no matter how chaotic the choices players make for Geralt, he still remains a stalwart Lawful Neutral.

He still has his own values and loyalty and has no qualms on exacting reasonable justice. Geralt is the “Judge” archetype but he also happens to be jury and executioner. No matter which choices Geralt makes in both DLCs, they also end in him sorting things out.

5 TRUE NEUTRAL - EMIEL REGIS

One person who does the “neutral” better than Geralt would be Regis. He’s the bridge between the understanding of vampires and humans and views life arbitrarily. That’s not a bad thing in Regis’ case though since he’s also a kind person.

That should have placed him in the good alignment except at his core, he’s an evil creature who can easily go on a hellbent killing spree out of hunger. Somehow, Regis manages to keep civilized and an outcast of both societies he belongs in making him a True Neutral.

4 CHAOTIC NEUTRAL - OLGIERD VON EVEREC

Another person whose evilness or goodness is debatable would be Olgierd, the premiere character of Hearts of Stone. He might look like David Beckham, but he doesn’t share his family values nor his gentleness.

Olgierd, in his lust for power and respect, became selfish and made a deal with the devil. In doing so, Olgierd ruined the lives of those around him but at least made himself immortal while also helping Geralt. He’s a Chaotic Neutral for that.

3 LAWFUL EVIL - GAUNTER O’DIMM

Any villain that seeks to enslave, dominate, manipulate, or conquer falls into this category. No other villain in the game is more fitting of the Lawful Evil title than Gaunter O’Dimm himself. He’s cunning, has his own rules, and hauntingly calculating.

He’s the devil whom Olgierd made a deal with and that’s bad enough. Throughout Hearts of Stone, Gaunter O’Dimm has established why he’s the most diabolical villain in The Witcher 3 through is intelligence alone.

2 NEUTRAL EVIL - SYLVIA ANNA

Neutral Evil characters are those who won’t hesitate to change allegiances for personal gain and to betray others for their goals. The ends justify the means and Sylvia Anna fits the bill best.

She’s a prophesized evil child and a twisted version of Snow White who also arguably became evil due to circumstance. All Sylvia Anna wanted was revenge against the people who wronged her though she also wrong people to achieve this end.

1 CHAOTIC EVIL - DETTLAFF VAN DER ERETEIN

The person who Sylvia Anna wronged the most? A High Vampire, Dettlaff of all people. This turned the poor primal yet naive vampire into a raging demon who will harm anyone just to get back at Sylvia Anna.

Dettlaff even became both suicidal and murderous, wanting to take every soul in Toussaint down with him as he tries to kill Sylvia Anna and what’s left of his sanity. To that end, Dettlaff is very much a Chaotic Evil– a creature of destruction or as witchers like to call those, a regular Tuesday.
