PlayStation 5 owners are currently biding their time until Housemarque’s Returnal comes out on April 30th. It is the first big PS5 exclusive of 2021. Coincidentally, April 30th is also the same day Metal Gear Solid 2’s finale takes place, only in 2009.

So when Rose keeps asking Raiden what day tomorrow is, he can now say “is it the day Returnal comes out 11 years from now?”. Laughing and reminiscing with memes is the best way to pass the time until April 30th. One of the memes below even has a reference to Falcon and the Winter Soldier, whose last episode just aired on April 23rd.

10 Kids Don’t Know How They Have It These Days

The Game Boy kicked off Nintendo’s dominance in the handheld gaming market, and it did all of this without a backlight. In fact, its successors also lacked one all the way until the Game Boy Advance SP. Until then, players had to find the best place to play in order to see the screen. As seen in the above photo, certain accessories helped remedy the issue.

9 Show A Little Respect For Your Fellow Gamer

Some hardcore multiplayer games are pretty unforgiving for those who cannot dedicate enough time to it. This above picture is from Rust, and the person who posted this desperately does not want anyone to take advantage of their busy work life. While most gamers are surely respectful of others in the world, it just takes one to ruin almost all the progress this working person made. We wonder if their sign worked.

8 Words Of Encourangement

Bob Ross was the chillest dude on television, and even those who do not paint are likely to get something out of his long-running series The Joy of Painting. This classic quote is attributed to the artist and TV host, and it is extremely true.

Failure, after all, is one of the best learning tools. When working on a new art piece in any medium, you’ll be failing a lot before succeeding. The same is true for video games. Every time you fail a boss in Cuphead, you get a little closer to beating it.

7 A Prequel Would Also Do

6 This Actually Happened

There is so much misery in the world, but plenty of people are also working together to bring joy. One person brought together a bunch of people named Josh to duke it out in order to determine who actually gets to keep the name Josh. The winner was a little kid, and it does not take magnificent powers of deductions to figure out his name. It really is like a real life battle royale, only nobody parachuted in from the skies.

5 Trading Places

This meme is a jab at the fancy designs many modern gaming computers are employing. With the switch in looks described in the photos, it is like pets looking like their owner and owners looking like their pets. A fancy looking monitor and computer is worthless unless the stuff inside is up to snuff. We don’t care how our computer looks as long as it can run Half-Life: Alyx or sustain high frame-rates.

4 And Now We Feel Old

Sometimes you have to stop and remember that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out in 2007. The game revolutionized the first-person shooter genre. When you think about old Call of Duty, images of World War II battlefields come to mind.

In reality, you should start thinking about shooting off Imran Zakhaev’s arm in the All Ghillied Up mission. What does that make the first three mainline Call of Duty games, then? Downright ancient?

3 The Lara Croft Evolution

Tomb Raider first came out in 1996, and the most recent entry came out in 2018. While the series has been rebooted twice, it is still impressive to see a series last so long. The above meme really puts into perspective how much the character has changed over the years. The games have also significantly evolved. The first Tomb Raider was still in the early days of 3D gaming, so not everything about it has aged well.

2 The First Gaming Peripheral

Most can probably relate to the above image. Many kids watched action movies and re-enacted the scenes from their favorite action movies. After a few years they move on to video games, but it is always good to keep your imagination working. Even if you’re an adult, don’t be afraid to use a stick you found in the woods as a gun. Some games like Dreams or Quip Lash take some imagination and creativity to take advantage of.

1 This Line Also Would Have Worked

This particularly funny moment from Falcon and the Winter Soldier calls back to the second Captain America film. They are talking about the Mavin Gaye album Trouble Man to Bucky. If they had talked about video games instead, the joke still would have landed. Being from a different time, Bucky would have no idea what video games are. We wonder if Steve Rogers ever dabbled in the medium. He’d probably dig Wolfenstein and the old Medal of Honor games.
