2021 has been an admittedly slow year in terms of new game releases, but the pace will pickup within the next couple of months as exciting titles like Resident Evil: Village, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart come out in May and June.
News certainly has not been slow, however, with the Bethesda and Microsoft deal officially going through this week, prompting much of the publisher’s backlog to head to Xbox Game Pass. And of course, regardless of the speed of the gaming news cycle or releases, people are still sharing memes wildly, as evidenced by the ten funniest ones we found for this week.
10 She’s Still With You, So You Must Be Doing Something Right
It is fine if your significant other is not into gaming, but it can definitely make the gamer side of the relationship feel insignificant at times to be with someone who is wildly successful. Do not fear too much, however. Your other half is still with you, so you must be doing something right. We’re sure your talented wife is not feigning enthusiasm over your gaming achievement or screenshot.
9 Portable Vs. Mobile
Don’t listen to people who question the legitimacy of mobile gaming. While plenty of games exist with unfair moneymaking mechanics and pay-to-win models, such things also exist in console titles.
Additionally, some incredible mobile games are worth playing. Still, we cannot help but long for the days of portable consoles like the Game Boy Advance or PSP. Serious talk aside, the meme is still pretty funny.
8 To Sleep Or Game; That Is The Question
Gaming is such a time consuming hobby. People barely had enough time to do everything they needed to do fifty years ago. Now we have gaming to worry about, but there are still only 24 hours in the day. As a result, many sacrifice precious hours of sleep to shove in some gaming. Your future self will not be thanking you in the morning, but that is a problem for the next day; at night it is all about gaming.
7 Just Appreciate That You’ve Grown
People grow and change all the time, and that is beautiful. Perhaps the worst thing about growing older, however, is realizing how foolish you were in the years prior. This is ultimately great, but it is never less painful to see directly. At best we used to be uneducated or had misguided opinions; at worst maybe we spoke with potentially offensive and insensitive language. As long as we grow it is nothing to be too ashamed of.
6 IT Wizards
IT guys really do seem like wizards. Your computer breaks and you spend hours doing every possible thing you can think of to get it working again. Then you call the IT guy and he seems to remedy the hardware’s ailment in just a few minutes. What is it they know that we don’t? Are they actual magicians? If this were three hundred years ago people would be grabbing their pitchforks, convinced IT is sorcery.
5 Broken PS2, Broken Heart
There is nothing worse than the day when a disc stops working. The problem is less frequent these days with the advent of digital purchases on consoles, but older gamers and those dedicated to physical media lament these moments like the loss of a loved one.
You cannot help but feel guilty at times, too. Maybe you dropped the PS2 one too many times or accidentally got your fingerprints on the disc.
4 Play What Makes You Happy
It is too easy to get wrapped up in a string of new releases. Never feel pressure to play what is new just to be a part of the conversation. If a new game is not doing it for you, there is no shame in returning to an old favorite. Play what makes you happy. The new game will still be there after you beat the old favorite, assuming you don’t want to just play through the beloved title again.
3 Gaming With A Roommate
We will never understand how some waste free days with things like going out, socializing, and meeting new people. We prefer to spend our valuable leisure time gaming until the break of dawn. Our roommates might judge us, but we are happy none the less exploring a virtual world. It certainly helps to game with headphones if your roommate brings a date home, too; especially ones that let you crank up the volume.
2 Who Dares, Dies
Those who enjoy open-world RPGs or turn-based JRPGs will sympathize with this meme. Older western RPGs are especially punishing when it comes to wandering into areas you are not yet strong enough to explore. Sometimes the game does nothing to warn you of the incoming danger. Many modern RPGs utilize level scaling, so those who play those will never know the suffering of losing hours of progress just because you got bit by the adventure bug.
1 Emotional Support Teammate
We all know the one teammate who is the weakest link on a strong squad. They get the same credit for the win, but did not work as hard. We’re not ashamed to admit that sometimes we have been said teammate. Such teammates are not entirely useless, though. They provide much needed emotional support to the players putting their lives in danger in whatever team-basedgame, whether it be a battle royale or a more traditional multiplayer match.
