Smurfs are returning to the world of video games, as a new 3D action/adventure game based on The Smurfs franchise has been announced.
The Smurfs might seem like an odd choice for a video game adaptation, but they have been starring in their own computerized adventures since 1982, with Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel’s Castle on the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision. There have been numerous Smurf video games over the years, but the release of the first The Smurfs movie led to a resurgence of interest in the property and some new titles on the Nintendo DS and Wii. There have also been several games based on The Smurfs released for mobile phones in recent years.
French publisher Microids has announced a partnership with IMPS to produce and release a new video game based on The Smurfs. The game will be a 3D action/adventure title that will use a brand new story that wasn’t present in the original comic book series. The game will feature multiplayer content, but nothing else is known about the game as of the time of writing. We’re not even sure which systems it will appear on, though it will likely be released on PC and all of the major consoles.
