This week in Hearthstone will be a bit of a test to see if recent changes can bring balance to the classes in any meaningful way. For starters, Blizzard has nerfed both Priest and Demon Hunters in the Arena with patch 17.0.3, adjusting card offerings available in order to bring the overall power level of those classes down to within reach of other classes.
Following the second recent nerf to the Demon Hunter class in Standard, there was a brief drop in its win rate followed by an increase in other classes like Rogue and Hunter, according to HSreplay.net.
Unfortunately, the Demon Hunter remains at the top, only a few percentage points above those other classes, but nearly ten percent higher than the lowest class, which is Shaman. There may now be a need for a third round of Demon Hunter nerfs. We will hopefully hear something with regards to the continued dominance of the new class, which at this point is making it frustrating to play virtually anything else.
In esports, week two of the 2020 Grandmasters is in full swing with 48 players competing for the $500,000 prize pool of the season and a shot at the upcoming Hearthstone World Championship. Last week it was Empanizado, BoarControl, and Ryvius dominating their opponents, but perhaps this week’s new format for a Four Deck Last Hero Standing with a ban might be enough of a change from last week’s conquest format with a ban to see new players take the top spots. Finally, the Battle of Tol Barad is this the Tavern Brawl for this week, a recycled format that first appeared in Hearthstone on November 25 of 2015. Casting a minion card will reward players with a random spell of the same cost, with a Classic Card Pack offered as a reward for the first win of the week.
For players who want to dominate this week’s Tavern Brawl, consider using this Flamewaker Mage deck for a bit of a blast from Blackrock Mountain past!
