My goodness is this week chockful of notable new releases. Sure, previous weeks have had some heavy hitters but this one is just ridiculous. It’s as if everyone saved their big summer games for right now. Hope you didn’t blow all your gaming money at the Steam sale!
Here are just a few of the most exciting new releases for this week (July 12 - July 18):
Death Stranding (PC - July 14)
Starting the week off strong is Hideo Kojima’s bizarre apocalyptic package delivery/Norman Reedus simulator, Death Stranding. It’s finally available for PC owners who turn their noses up at those disgusting, degrading consoles. It’s just as weird and controversial as before, but now it looks so much shinier. Seeing Norman’s sweet cheeks brought to life with high-end graphics cards seems worth well the price of admission.
Ooblets (Xbox One, PC - July 15)
It’s like Pokemon only cuter, stranger, and with more dance breaks! After a long development cycle, Ooblets will finally be releasing into Early Access on Xbox One and the Epic Games Store. So if the idea of a game where you can farm and catch adorable creatures sounds delightful you should probably check it out.
Drake Hollow (Xbox One, PC - July 17)
Drake Hollow was shown during the recent Day Of The Devs Indie Game Showcase and looks to be an interesting survival game where you’re tasked with saving helpless creatures called Drakes. Plenty of resource gathering and town-building with up to four friends. It looks like something that could be popular among streamers.
Paper Mario: The Origami King (Switch - July 17)
It really says a lot that a new Mario game probably isn’t even the biggest release of the week. That said, it is nice to have a new Paper Mario game, although the series hasn’t exactly been putting out quality titles for some time now. Paper Mario: The Origami King has a lot of pressure to live up its predecessors, especially since its the only notable Nintendo title that we know of for the rest of 2020.
Ghosts Of Tsushima (PS4 - July 17)
Finally, we end the week with one of the last major Playstation 4 exclusives, Ghosts Of Tsushima. The highly anticipated game is coming from Infamous and Sly Cooper developer, Sucker Punch, so it has a decent pedigree behind it. The game looks beautiful and has been compared to Breath Of The Wild when it comes to its massive world. Time will tell whether or not it will join the hallowed list of excellent PS4 exclusives like God Of War or Uncharted 4, or if it becomes the next Days Gone.
