This week brings a major development to PUBG with the addition of bots to update 7.1 in public matches on console. According to lead project manager Joon H. Choi, the team was noticing “many new players are being eliminated early with no kills – and oftentimes with no damage dealt,” and the move should certainly help bridge that gap between seasoned veterans and new players who are still learning the ropes.

While the move is similar to what Fortnite has done, the addition of bots may be a grasp at attempting to remain relevant in a genre that is over saturated. Popular Mixer streamer Shroud discussed how PUBG should work towards creating a proper sequel if it hopes to regain popularity. Shroud went on to discuss how a stream of issues and bugs have plagued the game since launch and starting over might be the best bet.

In esports, Tencent unveiled the PUBG Mobile India Series 2020 (PMIS) featuring a prize pool of over $65,000. Seeing tournaments carry over from year to year is always exciting, though it is unfortunate the prize pool appears to have been cut in half, since last year the tournament saw players competing for around $131,000 in prizes.
