This week The Sims 4 community was given the exciting news that a new expansion is coming soon. While a summer expansion was expected, as this has been the pattern for a while, many thought the announcement would come at the online EA Play event in a few weeks’ time. However, the early news was not all good; a large proportion of the community has taken against the theme, despite only seeing a single trailer so far.
The trailer was released at the end of last week and gave us a tiny glimpse of what the pack has to offer. We saw a brand new world, which changes in response to Sims’ actions. We have also been told that the pack will introduce new upcycled, sustainable fashion and furniture, vertical gardens, and eco-friendly energy.
Eco Lifestyle is also said to help bring neighborhoods together, through new community action plans and voting boards. However, it has not brought The Sims community together, with a large group of outspoken players making their disappointment known.
The main issue appears to be that many players feel that there are already enough eco-based ideas in the game, with Island Living’s Sulani being a changing world, the off-the-grid lot trait, and the gardening overhaul we got when Seasons was released.
Despite this backlash, there are many others who feel the theme is being judged prematurely and remain excited to discover what is to come. After all, we currently know very little about the upcoming pack, the first to have a simultaneous launch on PC/Mac and console. More information is expected as the launch draws closer.
