While there are some concerns that the United States government might ban TikTok, the social media app has not slowed down. TikTok has become one of the top social media apps in the entire world, with millions of people joining in on its “trends,” creating similar videos that all use the same sound or theme. One of the latest TikTok trends has some users scratching their heads, though, and it all revolves around the mysterious date of August 27.
TikTok users may have noticed that there are numerous videos on the app talking about “August 27th,” but they’re always pretty vague. The videos are often accompanied by disturbing music or imagery, implying that something sinister is going to happen on August 27. However, those worried can rest assured that there is nothing really “planned” for August 27. It’s just some random date that TikTok users have started hyping up as part of the latest trend.
One of the first videos to do this trend comes from TikTok user stfusamantha, who says that anyone seeing the video has been “chosen” and that they should remember August 27th because it’s important. In the comment section of the video, though, stfusamantha explains that she just wanted to make a weird video and was surprised to see it go viral. As pointed out by New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz, it’s possible that other creators were doing the trend before stfusamantha, but her video does seem to be one of the first ones to blow up on the platform.
So basically, the August 27 date doesn’t really mean anything and it’s just the latest TikTok trend.
