Tony Hawk has voiced his plans to take the Pro Skater series in a “new direction” if the remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 proves to be a success. The remaster of the 1999 and 2000 classic skateboarding experience was announced by Activision earlier this year.
Speaking to Game Informer in its latest issue, Hawk revealed that the Pro Skater 1 + 2 revamp is “just the start,” as the skater disclosed what else he had planned. He mentioned the intent to go on and remaster Pro Skater 3 and possibly even 4 that would subsequently lead to Hawk’s ambition to “work on a new direction” for the series to take along with Activision. He emphasized that this was the goal he was working towards and concluded by saying that it all depended on the success of the remasters released late this year.
Due to rail slide onto PC, PS4 and Xbox One in September, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 promises to be a refreshing makeover for the first two entries in the series that Hawk polished himself. The pro skateboarder was joined by several other skaters who helped out on the creativity front to give the remaster a new lease of life. The remastered pastimes will showcase enhanced graphics, brand new challenges and an online multiplayer mode because every skater should be able to ride with friends.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was widely regarded as a gnarly failure in 2015 and there hasn’t been another console title in the Tony Hawk’s series between then and the remasters. Fans heavily criticized the fifth title’s awkward controls targeted at the ‘slam down’ function and were confused as to why there were other players joining in on your skate expedition. The devs even expected the game to receive a backlash after they pulled the title away from reviewers so that fans wouldn’t be deterred from buying before release.
The remaster may have brought doubt into the minds of fans that hoped for some new material on the horizon for the series, but now some future plans have been revealed that shows progress towards fresh content. Fans of the series are now ready for the Birdman to bring something new to the table after Pro Skater 5’s face plant.
