In recent years, more than practically any other type of career, the prospect of becoming a professional gamer has transitioned from being viewed as an unproductive hobby, to becoming understood as legitimate work. As both streaming and esports have exploded in popularity among younger generations of gamers, so too has the cultural awareness of the growing number of people getting paid to play video games at a high level.
Getting a leg up on the many others now pursuing a career in gaming, however, requires more resources than in the past, as a higher level of play is expected from professionals as they start to receive higher pay and visibility. With this in mind, GamerzClass offers MasterClass-style lessons from gaming pros to help provide that competitive advantage. The latest to join GamerzClass’s roster is Dota 2 mid laner Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen.
He now joins fellow GamerzClass instructors Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang who currently plays for Fnatic, Evil Genius’ Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen, and his support counterpart on OG, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. What makes Topson and his OG teammates notable is their meteoric rise from battling through The International’s open qualifiers, to winning the premier event, to then winning a second consecutive International. OG is the only team to do so in the game’s history.
GamerzClass’ lessons are divided into a series of videos and an accompanying PDF workbook. The staff at GamerzClass works together with its instructors to develop these lessons in order to ensure satisfactory content and an organizational style conducive to the learning of its participants, while highlighting the specialized knowledge of its contributors.
Topson’s video series will focus on the ins and outs of mid laning. In total, the class will consist of 18 videos in order to dissect the minutiae of the position, including specific breakdowns of the early game, the laning phase, rune control, winning team fights and more.
The course will retail for $49 once released, and is currently on sale for $30 when purchased as a pre-order. A specific release date has yet to be set due to production difficulties resulting from the ongoing pandemic, but GamerzClass is currently aiming to have it out before the end of Summer of this year.
