Right now, it’s hard to imagine that the 2020 Tour de France will still be taking place at the end of August - the race was already rescheduled from its original planned date in June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, even if the 2020 race is rescheduled again - or canceled outright - gamers will at least get to take in the sights and sounds of the annual cycling event with the Tour de France 2020 video game.

Like most annually recurring sporting events, Tour de France receives a new version of the game every year, a la Madden or NBA2K. This year, however, Tour de France 2020 will come to PC for the first time ever, and will also incorporate a new first-person camera perspective.

The first-person perspective will certainly add to the game’s already hyper-realistic gameplay surrounding what it takes to be a pro cyclist, with the breakaways, sprints, and steep slopes that cycling enthusiasts have come to expect of the franchise.

Players will be able to take on the game’s Pro Leader mode, in which their custom created cyclist - complete with a specialization - will compete over consecutive seasons to reach the top of the Pro Cycling leaderboards.

In addition to the new perspective, the franchise is finally being brought to the PC, joining the top cycling management game Pro Cycling Manager 2020. However, while Tour de France 2020 will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 4, 2020, no release date has been revealed for the PC version.

Either way, fans of the series will have much to look forward to, including multiple improvements to the base game, as well as other new features such as:

  • Liège-Bastogne-Liège (“The Old Lady”), a 266km race of steep climbs A redesigned interface that provides better anticipation of the course and position of competitors A deeper time-trial where posture and sprint management are crucial for success A more realistic AI that grabs any attack opportunity

You may be stuck inside right now, but you’ll soon be able to digitally feel the wind against your face as you race other cyclists.
