This is according to a new report by Bloomberg, which claims that Toys R Us is looking to start its comeback with less than 10 stores that will be opening in 2019. The new Toys R Us stores will be roughly a third the size of the original Toys R Us locations, and they will feature new gimmicks to give people more reasons to visit them than just buying new products.

One example given is that the new Toys R Us locations will have play areas for kids. The hope is that by offering “experiences” like that, people will be more inclined to go to Toys R Us or at least spend more time in the store.

This strategy is not unlike GameStop’s new strategy moving forward, where it hopes to become a cultural experience and not just a video game retail store. Whether or not this approach works for either company remains to be seen, but we’ll find out if Toys R Us is successful in this comeback attempt when the first stores open later this year.

Meanwhile, Toys R Us will also have an online presence when it makes its comeback, so those who don’t live close to one of the company’s new retail locations will still be able to purchase products if they have the desire to do so. More details on that should come at a later date, as Toys R Us is looking to reopen in time for the upcoming holiday season.

The death of Toys R Us was sad for kids who grew up visiting the stores to buy new toys and video games, so hopefully this comeback is a successful endeavor.
