It’s the beginning of a new month, which means gamers everywhere have a ton of free games to look forward to on their platform of choice. PlayStation and Xbox have both shown their hands for October, and now it’s Twitch’s turn, as they’ve finally released the list of free games Twitch Prime members can snag this month.
Heading off the list is Darksiders: Warmastered Edition from THQ Nordic. It has a lot in common with traditional Legend of Zelda games, so fans of that franchise should feel right at home. Darksiders 3 is also on the horizon, so this is a great opportunity to jump into the series for new fans.
Next up is Sanitarium, a classic point-and-click adventure game full of horror. Players take on the role of an amnesiac trying to figure out who they are and how to escape. Gamers may have to get past the dated graphics, but it’s a great addition to the lineup and certainly fits October’s spooky theme.
Prime subscribers looking for a more modern horror game will be able to treat themselves to SOMA, a suspenseful thriller from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It takes place in an underwater facility, which gives everything a Bioshock feel. It even features a peaceful mode for players that want to experience the rich story without having a heart attack.
Rounding out the list is System Shock: Enhanced Edition. The System Shock games are some of the most critically acclaimed PC games ever, and definitely worth revisiting or playing through for the first time. The Enhanced Edition brings a bunch of technical and gameplay improvements over the original, like 4K support and rebindable keys, so fans should have an easier time readjusting to the older gameplay systems.
Overall, this is a great offering of games. The four titles should provide hours of enjoyment for pretty much anybody, and the spooky themes should sit well with horror fans during their sacred month of Spooktober. After the somewhat-disappointing PlayStation Plus lineup, at least when compared to what was rumored, these Prime games will help make October’s free game library much more impressive.
