There are a lot of reasons people play video games, whether that’s to explore a story through someone else’s eyes, escape for a little while, or for a challenge. Twitch Streamer Ross “RubberNinja” O’Donovan is taking the challenge to an entirely new level, though, as the streamer is currently playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and DOOM Eternal at the same time – with a single controller.

If that sounds crazy, it’s because it kind of is. While Animal Crossing is a relatively gentle experience, DOOM Eternal is brutal, constantly barraging players with all sorts of demons. It is, to put it lightly, a starkly contrasting experience between the two, and watching RubberNinja borders on absurd sometimes. However, it’s also incredibly interesting to watch. Both Animal Crossing and DOOM Eternal reviews have been great so far, though this likely isn’t the intended experience.

Part of the novelty comes from how much the fanbases of the two games have supported each other. Prior to launch, Animal Crossing and DOOM fans shared memes celebrating the shared release date between the two titles. The created content was particularly wholesome, featuring crossovers between Isabelle and the Doom Slayer. Both games are now out in the wild, with players able to enjoy either– or apparently both– to their heart’s content.

Of course, this likely means that RubberNinja’s DOOM Eternal playthrough will be filled with a fair share of horrible deaths over and over again, as trying to manage DOOM’s moment-to-moment action alongside building up an island will be difficult, to say the least. That’s not to say that it can’t be done, though it may mean seeing a lot more of DOOM Eternal’s new demons after each try.

Regardless, playing both DOOM and Animal Crossing with a single controller is an impressive feat. There’s no telling just how far the streamer will take it, though seeing DOOM Eternal’s ending be completed while Animal Crossing is played simultaneously would be neat to see. Of course, given how difficult DOOM can be, that may not be all that practical. Who knows, though, gamers have accomplished some pretty amazing feats in the past.
