Although E3 has been canceled, Ubisoft is still ready to show off everything in its upcoming game lineup to eager fans. A new teaser has been released revealing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, and Hyper Scape, which should be the major focus of the upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase taking place on Sunday, July 12.
Hopefully, Ubisoft will be more forthcoming with showing actual gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was supposedly set for the Microsoft Xbox 20/20 showcase in May, but that left fans largely disappointed with little more than pre-rendered footage not representative of the actual gameplay perspective.
Apart from real gameplay, we may still need to wait for an official release date. Ubisoft has stated that the game will release in the fourth quarter of his year, and it would make the most sense to launch alongside the next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles. However, those plans may shift thanks to the global pandemic which could delay production of those consoles.
For now, both Sony and Microsoft say they are on track for a Holiday season launch, though time will tell if that is true. If there is a delay, however, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla could still launch early as it will still be available for PC, current consoles, and the Stadia, for anyone who would want it on that platform. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is also releasing with Microsoft’s “Smart Delivery” program, so an early release relative to new consoles might not be a bad thing at all.
Watch Dogs Legion, on the other hand, is well overdue for a firm launch date. The game was due to launch this past March but was delayed without being given a new specified date release date. The reasons for its initial delay was strictly to increase development time, which in all honesty is the best reason to stall the launch of a game. The Watch Dogs series has been great so far and holding off on launching an unfinished game to put into the best state it can be is great news. Hopefully, we will have more news on this on July 12.
Finally, Hyper Scape was shown as well. The newest game to enter the battle royale genre has been doing quite well so far from a player and critical perspective, and it will be interesting to hear what lies ahead in a bid to differentiate itself from the many other games dominating the market right now, namely Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
For now, we can only speculate, so be sure to check out the Ubisoft Forward showcase next Sunday, July 12 at 12pm PDT!
