The Settlers, a city-builder from Ubisoft has been hit with a delay that hopefully won’t become a cancelation.

The game was set to follow the Settlers after they were forced to leave their homelands after a devastating earthquake. They then set sail into the unknown in search of new land to call home.

In a message to fans, Blue Byte said, “Since quality is our main priority, we want to take the time necessary to make it right. Therefore, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the release of the game until further notice. While we cannot provide a new release date yet, rest assured we will keep you updated via The Settlers Alliance and our other channels as soon as we can give you further information.”

While the post isn’t exactly clear about the specific reasons for the delay there is no way this can be seen as a positive for The Settlers. Originally set for release in 2019, the game was pushed to 2020 and now has been delayed indefinitely. That’s if it comes out all.

Still, it has to be taken as a good sign that the game hasn’t been outright canceled. But as anyone who was indefinitely grounded by their parents as a kid can tell you, while it doesn’t always mean forever, it does mean a long time.

Not only that, but on The Settler forums, some gamers have reported receiving an automatic refund for their preorders. Once again, this isn’t a positive sign for the game’s long term prospects, as it is not usual for companies to give out unsolicited refunds.

It remains to be seen whether or not the game will ever come up, or if it will slip into the forgotten ranks of the numerous game announcements that never see the light of day. One would hope for a happy conclusion for both the devs, who have worked so hard on the project, and for fans that patiently awaited the release of the game. But for now, gamers will have to settle on another city-builder to pass the time.
