Immersive MMORPG Ultima Online (UO) was recently updated worldwide with Publish 109 ahead of the game’s upcoming 23rd anniversary. Publish 109 details UO’s incoming anniversary gifts, a new suite of story elements, new Dynamic items, new items on the Ultima Store, updates, and more.
Ultima Online was originally launched by Origin Systems on September 24th, 1997, and is one of the games that sparked the entire MMORPG genre. Set in the shattered shards of Sosaria, on the lands of Britannia, players can choose the roles of a number of high-fantasy races and classes for sandbox-style adventures across multiple PvE and PvP servers. Broadsword Online Games took over the mantle of UO in 2014 and have been steadily updating and improving the game ever since.
Ultima Online’s 23rd anniversary is happening later this year, and Publish 109 lists the anniversary gifts that will be available for veteran avatars. Players with accounts more than 30 days old (veterans) can log in between Tuesday, September 1, 2020 12:01:00 AM (GMT-04:00) and Thursday, October 1, 2020 12:01:00 AM (GMT-04:00) to receive a 23rd Anniversary Gift card and token to redeem for a Silver Plated Lamppost, a Silver Plated Bubbling Cauldron, and a Silver Plated Tome.
According to the Publish notes, the Lamppost comes randomly-generated as one of the four types of lampposts and acts as a colored light source. The Cauldron is a blessed house addon deed “that has a rare chance to be delivered in 1 of 7 rare hues.” The Tome also comes randomly-generated, with a random “Tale of…” title matched with a random nobility title and city name.
Story Elements are a new series of items coming to UO designed for deeper avatar engagement and player immersion into Britannia. Lore Books can be found at various locations in Britannia, with fully-written and illustrated stories for players to collect and read. Story Scrolls are short, quickly-readable messages that share info on various locations and items around Britannia. Quest Clues, a popular item from past events, have returned with improved displays and more customizable options. And Conversation Oracles have had their interface display improved with new illustrations and a better conversation text gump.
Additionally, the Dynamic Boss Mob Generator, Dynamic Champion Spawns, and Dynamic Treasures Event are now available to create customized Global and EM events by the UO Dev Team & UO Event Moderator team. The Artisan Festival (Tuesday, December 1, 2020 12:01:00 AM (GMT-05:00) to Tuesday, January 5, 2021 11:59:00 PM (GMT-05:00)) will be held in Yew this year, and has been updated with new blanket and stained glass windows rewards.
